We are an established IB Continuum World School with a reputation for excellence and innovation. We are now seeking applicants for the role of French Language Assistant to start as soon as possible.
Mulgrave School inspires students to achieve their personal best by providing a rich and engaging programme that develops students’ skills, promotes curiosity and love of learning, and prioritises well-being. All students follow the **International Baccalaureate **Middle Years Programme (MYP) in Grades 6-10, and most students pursue the IB Diploma Programme (DP) in Grades 11 & 12. Teaching and learning are enriched by opportunities for exploration in the arts, athletics, outdoor education, service, leadership, and more.

**Position Summary**:
Mulgrave places great importance on language learning, and offers a variety of language learning options. In addition to Mandarin, which is offered at every grade level, French is offered as an option starting in Kindergarten. Teaching and learning are enhanced by the work of Language Assistants, who work closely with classroom teachers to further students’ progress by providing conversational practice and other support to students, during lessons as well as individually and in small groups.

**Position Responsibilities**:

- Provide in-class support to various French language classes, as assigned by the European Languages Coordinator
- Plan activities and work with individual students and small groups to improve their language skills
- Collaborate with classroom teachers in the development of resources and assessments
- Actively seek out ways to differentiate and personalise instruction to meet the diverse needs of students
- Assist with the evaluation and assessment of student progress
- Support the emotional and social development of students
- Engage in regular planning meetings with the French Teacher(s)
- Communicate frequently with the French Teacher(s) regarding observations related to student progress

**Required Qualifications**:

- Legally entitled to work in Canada (Canadian citizen, PR, or valid work permit)
- Must be willing to undergo a criminal records check and Vulnerable Sector Search as a condition of school employment
- Demonstrable fluency (oral and written) in French
- Minimum of a high school diploma
- Experience working with adolescents, ideally in a school-based setting
- Hold or be willing to obtain an age appropriate First Aid Certificate

**Preferred Experience and Qualities**:

- Knowledge and understanding of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
- University degree in French or a related field
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Strong organisational, communication, administrative and interpersonal skills
