We have an immediate opening for a **Controller**. This position is available in **Calgary, AB**.

The Controller must present solid communication, analytical and management skills with at least five years of relevant experience in a mid to large size company. In the role of Controller, you will oversee the overall financial operations of Providence Therapeutics to provide accurate information to the Executive team and the Board of Directors, including accurate financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. The Controller will manage the company's accounting functions, including establishing and maintaining best practices in accounting principles, accounting systems, practices, and procedures, preparing financial statements, and reporting to top management and externally. This role will also oversee and manage the NetSuite accounting system, and also lead the transition of a new payroll system.

**How we plan on keeping you busy**:

- Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions.
- Providing accurate financial reporting and management reports for decision making.
- Leading and coordinating activities for annual financial audits and tax returns.
- Prepare quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements.
- Prepare annual budget and quarterly forecasts. Compare actual to budget/forecasts with variance analysis.
- To monitor operational expenditures in conjunction with approved budgets.
- To maintain a system of internal controls and accounting which provides the most effective control over company’s assets, liabilities, revenues and expenditures;
- To reconcile all supplier accounts, to post all payables, and to pay vendors in accordance with due dates and cash flow projections;
- Oversee and manage all aspects of the accounts payable and payroll functions of the Company, including completion of payroll tax reporting requirements.
- Prepare working papers and journal entries for day-to-day accounting transactions including, but not limited to bank reconciliations, accounts receivable, prepaids, inventory, payroll, and accounts payable and accrued liabilities. Implement the month-end and year-end close process.
- Drive automation in accounting processes and accounting system implementation. Support new systems or project selections and implement them from a strategic finance and internal control perspective.
- Establishing and monitoring corporate policies, procedures, and controls in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Other related duties as required or assigned.

**What will help you get here**:

- University degree in Business/Accounting.
- CPA designation required
- Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in accounting/ finance in a Controller or Senior Manager role
- Prior work experience in mid to large companies in a financial reporting role
- Professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to make the necessary decisions to move forward the work at hand.
- Must possess a high level of moral judgment for handling confidential information.
- Strong leadership skills, communication, presentation, problem-solving and organizational skills are essential.
- Experience as a financial management leader within a team focused culture that supports people and performance.
- Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
- Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines.
- Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills.
- Attention to detail in all areas of work.
