Business Analyst

**Job Title: IT Technical Business Analyst - Senior** **Location: Edmonton Alberta T5J 3W7 (The resource will primarily work remotely)** **Duration: 05-month contract + 12 possible extensions** **Project Name**: **Data Strategy Roadmap** **Duties**: **General Responsibilities (any or all)**: - Lead or facilitate meetings and workshops with GOA departments, clients, stakeholders, and project teams. - Collaborate with Product Owners/Managers to define and maintain the product roadmap, providing technical feasibility input, initial effort estimates, and identifying key technical dependencies to shape the timeline. - Lead efforts to research and document User Personas and User/Customer Journey Maps to build and define the "Who" and "Why" behind the solution. - Create and present formal business cases, including ROI analysis, for proposed technical solutions to secure project approval and funding. - Lead or support identifying, gathering, analyzing, and documenting business requirements from several business areas. - Translate business needs and user pain points into actionable, granular User Stories complete with precise, measurable Acceptance Criteria. - Own and prioritize the Product Backlog with the Product Owner, ensuring stories are ready for development, properly estimated, and aligned with technical dependencies. - Translate functional requirements into detailed technical specifications for engineers, including Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs) for performance, security, and scalability. - Develop visual models like Data Flow Diagrams (DFDs), process maps (BPMN), and Data Models to illustrate current and future state architecture. - Maintain the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM), linking user stories to business goals, technical specifications, and test cases. - Define and execute the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) strategy and scripts, ensuring the delivered product satisfies the initial user goals captured in the personas. - Manage scope and requirements changes, assessing the impact on the roadmap, technical dependencies, and project timeline. - Capture and document business and technical metadata for data products. - Perform gap analyses. - Create new business and technical processes and complete business process reviews/re-engineering for existing processes. - Prepare presentations/demonstrations for engagement with stakeholders, steering committees, project groups and other stakeholders - Support the development of processes to enable sustainable data product delivery. - Support the development of business cases and procurements. - Coordinate approvals and sign-offs. - Contribute to training strategy, modules, and content pertaining to usage of technical platforms and tools. - Create or assist with creating project documents and associated planning documents. - Lead or support project status meetings and other meetings as required. - Provide support by bridging communication between vendors, client departments, and corporate technical and business teams. - Make recommendations to project teams pertaining to issues, risks, and client satisfaction. - Raise awareness of emerging issues that require senior or executive involvement **Qualifications /Must Have**: **The proposed resource must meet or exceed one of the following**: University graduation in business, management or a related discipline and five-year Technical Business Analyst (BA) experience; OR Two-year diploma in business, management or a related discipline and six-year BA experience; OR One-year certificate in business, management or a related discipline and seven-year BA experience; OR Eight-year BA experience **Work Experience**: - Experience as a business analyst translating business requirements into detailed technical requirements in an enterprise IT environment. - Experience creating flowcharts/diagrams/analyses, including but not limited to activity, process flow, data flow, entity relationship, mind map, roadmap/plan, gap analysis, organizational chart, SWOT analysis, RACI matrix, UI wireframes, user personas/journey maps. - Experience dealing with clients and explaining complex data principles in a thoughtful manner. - Experience in developing, implementing, and operating Information and Data Management frameworks. - Experience working with clients/stakeholders to identify, gather, document, and analyze business data and process requirements. - Direct, hands-on experience performing business requirement analysis, solution architecture and design, and deployment for cloud based Data Management projects using cloud technologies like Azure, Snowflake, etc. - Direct, hands-on experience performing business requirement analysis, solution architecture and design, and deployment related to data analysis, data analytics, data visualization, data science, data mining. - Direct, hands-on experience performing business requirement analysis, solution architecture and design, and deployment related to data management, acquisit
