Intermediate Aquatic Ecologist

Guelph, Canada Aboud & Associates Inc. Full time

Aboud & Associates is a tight-knit team of Arborists, Ecologists, and Landscape Architects. Our team operates from virtual, home-based offices with the opportunity to work in a Guelph-based collaborative shared space. We support our public and private clients in navigating regulatory processes and facilitating responsible private development and public infrastructure projects in southern Ontario.

We are currently seeking a skilled Intermediate Aquatic Ecologist to complete these key tasks:
1) **Aquatic, Fish & Mussel assessments.** You have experience with, and have completed relevant training in, aquatic habitat assessments, assessing fish habitat, fish identification, fish & mussel salvages and all associated permitting and reporting requirements. While this position is primarily aquatic, it will include field support for terrestrial and wildlife studies from time to time.

3) **Write Environmental Impact Studies and Species at Risk Screening Assessments.** You can communicate in writing logical and defensible study methodologies, findings, analysis, and mitigation recommendations to non-ecologists such as planners, engineers, public officials, and citizens.

4) **Manage client expectations.** You can keep regular communication with clients, relay relevant information and requirements to clients, engineers and planners, collaborate internally with colleagues, and with external consultants and authority/agency staff.

Working in a home-based office requires the confidence to work independently, ask questions early, and efficiently manage time. As a skilled Aquatic Ecologist, you know that occasionally working non-standard office hours is inherent in the work. The field functions of the job require walking long distances, time in and around aquatic environments, lifting and carrying field equipment, hearing and vision accuracy, and ability to identify and distinguish between colours. Fieldwork occurs during all four seasons in physically demanding environments like construction sites, swamps and ravines that require walking on uneven ground. A valid driver’s license is required.

**No need to recap your resume in paragraph format in the cover letter. Instead, please describe a single project or task you consider the most significant accomplishment in your career so far; having context for the key tasks required of this Aquatic Ecologist position. Search for 'performance-based hiring' to better understand what we are looking for in your cover letter.**
