**General Purpose**

The Department of Pathobiology at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge in veterinary and comparative pathology, veterinary infectious diseases and immunology.

The Laboratory Technician will provide technical assistance for research conducted by faculty members in the assigned laboratories. The Laboratory Technician will serve as an important technical link between research groups and collaborators inside and outside the Department.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Providing support for research projects
- Managing personnel and laboratory compliance with biohazard and safety regulations
- Maintaining laboratory and other equipment and analysers in assigned laboratories
- Managing ordering and receiving for research groups
- Supporting the decontamination of equipment and preparing related documentation
- Assisting in the preparation and delivery of clinical pathology teaching laboratories for DVM students

**Requirements**:

- Three-year College Diploma in medical lab technician/science
- 2 years of laboratory experience in the biomedical field providing technical laboratory support and operating various laboratory equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience providing technical support for biomedical research projects, including student mentoring and experience working with molecular biology techniques (e.g., RNA and DNA extraction and real-time PCR) is required
- Experience with all or some of: cell culture, aseptic technique, histotechnology, flow cytometry, and microtome use is preferred
- The job involves some lifting and a diverse range of motions for a wide variety of activities
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to recommend efficiencies
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, in particular Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel
