**Job Summary**
St. Paul’s is an active, worshipping community as well as an historic building. Thus, the applicant should have an interest in the history of Halifax, and should be able to interact with a wide variety of people, e.g., parishioners, visitors, Cruise Ship passengers, persons seeking assistance. The Guide position is a physically active job which involves walking around inside the building, pointing out the architecture, plaques, stained glass, etc. It requires a positive, outgoing and friendly attitude, good communication and presentation skills, leadership and initiative. An ability to develop community partnerships with surrounding businesses (i.e., Nova Centre, Downtown Halifax Business Commission, etc.) through sales and marketing is also on our preference list. The Guide will report directly to the Parish Administrator.

The position requires 35 hours per week from Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm. The job begins on July 1st and continues to August 31st (9 weeks). The rate per hour is $19.00 and is paid semi-monthly via direct deposit.

As a Guide, you will be responsible to:

- Become familiar with the history of St Paul’s Church and share that history verbally
- Greet the 12-15,000 tourists and pilgrims who visit St Paul’s over the summer/fall
- Offer and happily give guided tours of the church
- Provide information on scheduled services and events in the church
- Direct visitors to, and provide information on, other historic sites in Halifax
- Supervise the sale of postcards, souvenirs, books, etc. maintaining a small petty cash
- Keep track of and record the number of visitors each day in our logbook
- Open and close the church, and turn off or set the alarm when required
- Be a team player and do other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
- Maintain a tidy environment and be on time for shifts
- Have a cell phone
