Detailed Overview:
**Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families**:
The Workplace Cultural Navigator provides support to Indigenous and equity group workers fostering and promoting a safe, inclusive, and respectful construction site environment where individuals are valued for their contributions and skills within a workplace environment which is culturally safe, inclusive and harassment free.
The Cultural Navigator collaborates with the Owner, Design-Builder and Subtrades on site to facilitate, promote and achieve cultural safety, awareness, and inclusion. Connects with workers from diverse cultural heritages/identities on a regular basis to provide a range of support which includes: coaching and mentoring, knowledge/protocols sharing, safety in expressing self-identification which emphasizes commitment and dedication to the work and work environment with the objective that workers feel culturally safe and comfortable.
**Responsibilities**:
- Ensures ongoing support and facilitation of respectful engagement with workers on site, with particular focus on Indigenous and under-represented groups: women, LGBTQIA2S+, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, and youth 16-24.
- Provides support in the identification and implementation of initiatives to promote and enhance all worker experiences on site.
- Supports the Project Team to identify opportunities to maximize Indigenous and equity group recruitment, participation, and retention on the project.
- Provides required guidance, personal consultation, active listening, advocacy, support, and mentorship to project staff, subtrades, and community partners.
- Acts as a liaison among local Indigenous communities, under-represented groups, and Project Leadership.
- Provide guidance, mentorship and support to Project Team/work stream members relating to cultural protocols and practices as requested, including the sharing of knowledge and protocol around ceremony and culture for stronger Project interactions and supporting cultural events within the Project.
- Participates and supports project related Enhanced Inclusion Development Agreement (EIDA) initiatives, community engagement work and relationship building.
- Assists New Surrey Hospital & BC Cancer Centre (NSHBCCC) staff with culturally appropriate content related to job readiness, training programs, and on-site employment opportunities through promotional advertisements, website updates, and general inclusive communications.
- Supports the creation and sustainment of organizational cultural competency, safety, and cultural sustainability, through onsite initiatives and worker training.
- Work with post-secondary institutions, Indigenous community organizations, and under-represented groups to promote employment opportunities and create a stronger understanding of the principles of EIDA and benefits of a respectful workplace.
- Build upon skills and knowledge within the NSHBCCC community and facilitate increased access to cultural knowledge among NSHBCCC Leaders, Staff and Subtrades.
- Coordinates culture/social events and community ceremonies as appropriate to customs and traditions in appreciation of cultural diversity on site.
- Provides feedback ensuring NSHBCCC maintains awareness, provides support and input to improvement strategies, and addresses on site issues as needed.
- Encourages respectful workplace survey completion to ensure psychosocial safety among workers on site data is received.
- Supports processes to identify and address workplace absenteeism.
- Assist in incident investigations as needed.
- Other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications:
**Education, Training & Experience**
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma plus five (5) years' recent related experience including a working knowledge of facilities/site construction processes and supporting/coaching/mentoring certified tradesmen populations in areas of equity, diversity, inclusion and cultural change, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
