Headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, with a satellite office in Calgary, Alberta we specialize in ground mount and rooftop solar photovoltaic installations for both commercial and utility scale projects.
We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Manager for a large scale solar PV project location, Volcan, Alberta. Primary Deliverables
The Construction Manager is accountable for ensuring job performance of all site employees meets Company and Client expectations, meeting all construction goals (quality, timeliness and budget) while maintaining a zero incident/accident/injury safety standard. The Construction Manager is responsible to support and drive, in close collaboration with the Project Manager, all aspects of the Monarch Solar Farm (the “Project”) construction related activities regarding safety, quality, schedule and site costs. The Construction Manager has the responsibility to act as a role model of professional and respectful leadership in the field environment and with any stakeholders (client, Company peers, contractors, consultants, community) and ensure any applicable policies and procedures are always communicated and strictly enforced, as required.
People Management
- Work with approved labor agencies, human resources and manager to identify, on-board, train and lead site staff (laborers, electrical apprentices and journeymen, material handlers, quality technicians, welders, security agents, etc.).
- Manage day-to-day Installation, Quality Control, Materials, Health and Safety and Administrative Managers, Lead Hands and any site personnel for attendance, work, tasks.
- Responsible for providing supervision and development of all site employees during the construction phases of the project.
- Provide regular feedback to recognize employee success and identify areas for improvement.
- Complete a quarterly employee review form and feedback meeting.
- Escalate any critical employee issues which could impact deliverables to manager.
- Ensure and keep record that all employees and contractors on site have received safety, environmental wildlife orientation, assigned training and comply with all safety measures on an on-going basis with daily safety talks, walks in the field. Any deviations from the policies should be documented verbally if minor or on paper and filed if critical or repeated. There is a zero-tolerance policy for non-safety compliance.
Construction Operation
- Be the main point of contact for the PM and management on the Project Collaborate with Project Manager regarding contractual obligations including, schedule, milestone deliverables, scope, budget and material management.
- Establish site and personnel weekly and daily goals, that can be track visually in the site office, adhering to the master project schedule from the PM, budget and any other requirements.
- Ensure site offices, premises, construction site, materials in receiving and storage areas, equipment and facilities are always maintained, protected if needed, secured (from theft) and organized in an orderly and clean manner
- Maintain company tools and material inventories accurate on an on-going basis
- Coordinate and manage all construction activities of the project through daily meeting(s) with site staff, contractors, and any other consultants assigned to site activities. The role requires a significant presence on site daily (over 50%), in any tolerable conditions of weather per industry applicable standards, during activities to supervise, monitor and prevent any issues or delays.
- Report daily construction activities to the PM through daily and provide reports as required by Manager (weekly, monthly reports)
- Ensure all quality control activity on site, performing QC audits of work performed by Technicians and supervised by QA/QC Manager
- Collect and summarize site data and information for specific issue as requested
- Use technical knowledge and experience to optimize site productivity
- Monitor site employees' work levels and review work performance
- Investigate accidents and injuries, and prepare reports of findings
- Create Work Orders and Purchase Requisitions for any site facilities related needs
- Provide guidance, training and direction to subordinates, including setting site and individual goals, and performance standards and monitor work levels and review work performance monthly week
- Maintain a professional line of conduct in any circumstances
