Humane Society of Greater Niagara Animal Clinic is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our team.

The individual we are looking for will be reliable and self-motivated, with a positive attitude and compassion for animals. We are happy to welcome experienced Veterinary Assistants or new graduates, who are eager to learn and build on their skills.

**Responsibilities**:

- Providing compassionate care for our patients and animals
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic animal anatomy
- Communicating with clients for intake/discharge of clinic bookings
- Providing clear and concise pre-& post-op instructions to clients
- Accurate record-keeping & filing
- Self driven
- Diligent precision in medication dosing
- Performing recovery of surgical patients including but not limited to extubation, post-op temperatures, nail trims, affixing vetwear/cones
- Surgical monitoring (HR, RR, etc.)
- Performing subcutaneous & intra-muscular injections
- Cleaning and sanitizing the veterinary clinic and spay/neuter clinic including exam and treatment rooms, surgery room and cages, cleaning surgical instruments and preparing surgical packs
- Restocking consumables and other supplies and doing laundry as needed.
- Helping the veterinarian or veterinary technicians handle or restrain animals including ones with feral temperament
- Able to handle the physical demands of the role including lifting large dogs
- Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time
- Positive, can do attitude and demeanour
- Able to maintain composure in emotionally distressing situations
- Open to extended hours as required (rare but possible)

Pay: From $20.35 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 32 per week
