UNIT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
DeGroote’s Student Experience team supports all students at the DeGroote School of Business - MBA, BCom, specialized graduate programs and PhD students. As an integrated team, we champion new ideas, collaborate across boundaries and learn continually to deliver a consistent and inspiring student experience. The Recruitment and Admissions Officer works within the MBA Recruitment and Admissions team to support a strategic recruitment and admissions process, ensuring DeGroote achieves its targets and attracts the highest quality of student. The role is integral to shaping and promoting the DeGroote brand to a national audience.
This position will be based out of the Ron Joyce Centre in Burlington and will be in a hybrid format (working 3 days in the office and 2 days from home).
JOB SUMMARY:
PURPOSE AND KEY FUNCTIONS:
- Make independent admission decisions to admit or refuse applicants to University programs based on established prerequisites, University guidelines, and enrolment numbers.
- Recommend students who do not meet established prerequisites to Faculty Admissions Reviewing Committees and provide sufficient evidence of credentials to warrant a consideration for acceptance.
- Partner with other departments in the University to finalize enrolments.
- Develop and deliver presentations to potential applicants, families, and guidance counsellors.
- Document and provide feedback to senior staff regarding the target audience’s perception of the University.
- Meet with and respond to inquiries from prospective students.
- Attend and represent the University at recruitment events.
- Remain current with frequent changes in all academic areas, programs, admission policies and procedures, electronic media and social networking.
- Research, review, and analyze admissions criteria from national and international institutions.
- Recommend changes to University admission policies and procedures that will assist the University to remain competitive with national and international educational institutions.
- Meet with applicants to determine their academic interests and requests including asking questions about their previous educational background, academic strengths, and long-term goals.
- Provide information, answer questions, and discuss academic interests with applicants.
- Provide advice to applicants regarding their program suitability, other educational options, and employment options related to program selection.
- Analyze error reports and establish procedures to correct errors.
- Plan and coordinate large scale admissions applicant correspondence and the review and assessment of applicant files.
- Gather and compile information required to maintain manuals and procedure documents.
- Calculate domestic and international student grade point averages.
- Exchange information with internal and external admissions staff to discuss and share information on various procedures, policies, and issues that are being addressed at other institutions.
- Utilize and modify existing database queries to determine if files are complete and ready for review.
- Update, verify, process, and input new student and applicant information as required.
- Serve as an effective liaison between departments, educational institutions, alumni, and external contacts.
- Update and maintain content on the department website.

- Proven public speaking, persuasive presentation and facilitation skills including experience in delivering presentations to diverse audiences.
- Exceptional technical skills, including experience managing a CRM tool, using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and advanced Excel, and the ability to analyze and summarize complex data sets to make data-driven recommendations.
- Knowledge of SLATE would be an asset
- Proven experience in business marketing, sales and relationship management.
- Demonstrated skills in student coaching and ability to deliver feedback and/or difficult messages.
- Ability to adapt and be responsive to changes in an evolving domestic market.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, effectively prioritize activities and demonstrate a high degree of maturity and professionalism.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy and ability to review and synthesize information
- Experience in managing web and social media tools is an asset
