**The Opportunity**:
The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting to fill a seasonal position for an Environmental Utilities Labourer - Construction & Maintenance who will perform various labouring duties in the Class IV Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection and Stormwater Collection utilities. They will operate tools and small to medium motorized construction equipment and vehicles.
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Level 1 Alberta Provincial Certification in Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection preferred.
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- One year experience in underground deep utility construction of water and wastewater systems preferred.
- Must pass and maintain Hazard Assessment, Supervisory Ground Disturbance, WHMIS, First Aid, H2S, Confined Space and Rescue, Driver Training and other courses as determined by the City or Provincial requirements.
- Ability to achieve 7.2 (approximately 72 hours) continuing educations credits per three year cycle.
- Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with Q Endorsement.
- Demonstrated safety skills in the use of specialized equipment including, but not limited to, respirators and supplied air, air quality monitors, and confined space entry equipment.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and the ability to use a wide range of construction tools and portable water testing equipment.
- Ability to safely operate assigned equipment with a high level of skill in an urban environment, often with limited operating space and significant underground and overhead utilities, while near people, traffic and site obstructions.
- Able to read and interpret utility plans.
- Ability to work unsupervised and cooperate with colleagues as a team and to follow and understand written and verbal instructions.

**Remuneration**:
$27.86 to $29.50 per hour

**Hours of Work**:
80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday; extended shifts; some emergency and scheduled evening and weekend work may be required.

**Additional Information**:
This is a seasonal position with an anticipated term of 6 months.
