**PURPOSE OF POSITION**

The position of CNC Machinist is responsible for fashioning components out of raw materials (metal). These components must be produced to close tolerances and will be used for new tooling or for die maintenance purposes.

**NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION**

The position takes direction and provides direction to apprentice machinists and apprentice toolmakers.

The position reads blueprints in order to determine specifications of the part that requires machining and uses appropriate equipment to create the part. The part may be used for new tooling purposes or to replace broken component parts of dies that are being maintained. The incumbent will ask engineering about dimensions of drawings, and tooling team leads for advice about difficult problems. Most difficult problems include machining to hold required tolerances, special set ups, difficulties reading some blueprints, machining in proper sequence, and machining procedures. The position has no external contacts.

Work completed by the position impacts the department in the short-term.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Education**: High School Diploma. Certified Machinist Certificate required (429a). CNC programming certification is an asset.

**Knowledge and Skills**: The CNC Machinist must have good knowledge of and be able to use standard tool room and machining equipment. These include: drill presses, milling machines, grinders, lathes, overhead cranes, band saws, micrometers, verniers, height gauges. The incumbent must be able to read blueprints and schematics and run CNC machines. Experience with Wire EDM would be an asset.

**Communication Skills**:The incumbent must have good oral and written communication skills for normal business communication.

**Nature and Length of Experience**: At least five (5) years of experience beyond certification in a similar industry.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Machines item to specifications as determined by blueprint. Uses drill presses, milling machines, grinders, lathes, overhead cranes, and band saws in order to meet requirements. Physically moves machined item to appropriate workstation.
- Checks finished item to ensure specifications are met using micrometers, verniers and height gauges.
- Programs and runs CNC machines for new parts accurately and efficiently.
- Studies schematics to determine procedures for the machining of each new part. Performs set-up procedures for each new part to be machined in order to ensure accuracy of equipment and machining process.
- Directs less responsible machinists and toolmaker apprentices. Checks their own work as well as the work of others to ensure the quality of their work.
- Follows and performs to the instructions as outlined in the Work Area Reference Manual (s) applicable to the department.
- Follows and performs to the processes and instructions as outlined in the Process House applicable to the department.
- Compliance to all company HR policies and procedures.
- Responsible for working safely, complying with safety policies and procedures, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) required in the designated areas as per company policy.
- Responsible for working safely and keeping a safe work area for themselves and fellow employees. Reporting any unsafe working conditions, practices, and work-related injuries immediately to his/her Supervisor or Manager.
- Any other job-related duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Team Lead, Supervisor and Manager.

Pay: $31.54-$38.33 per hour
