JIAS Toronto is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to helping immigrants with resettlement in the Greater Toronto Area. JIAS Toronto assists lawfully admitted immigrants and refugees in meeting basic financial, social, legal, and other requirements of immigration. We work to advance the well-being and social integration of newcomers by providing a full range of outreach, support, counseling, training, and referral resources.

The **Intake Worker** is responsible for assessing client’s needs, determining service eligibility, as well as providing information and services referrals to immigrants and refugees at JIAS Toronto. This position is the first point of contact for all individuals interested in settlement services. In this role, the worker is also responsible for conducting an in-depth comprehensive initial assessment of the client.

  • Conducts a comprehensive initial assessment to determine clients’ settlement needs and identifies goals to be addressed in the clients’ settlement plan.
  • Facilitates timely client registration and ensures accuracy of data submitted by clients.
  • Facilitates appropriate internal/external referrals to any time sensitive services required by clients.
  • Actively participates in regular team meetings.
  • Ensures all intake related services provided are recorded on a daily basis as per agency and funder requirements.
  • Maintains accurate and timely client-related documentation and records.
  • Understanding of legislation and government prescribed procedures, regulations and standards.
  • Supports and advocates on behalf of clients to ensure they have access to services within the Agency and in the community.
  • Adheres to, and complies with organisational policies, processes and procedures, using appropriate systems where required.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

**required qualifications**

  • Post-Secondary degree or diploma in settlement work or equivalent training in human services field.
  • 3 years’ experience in the settlement and/or community work sectors.
  • Strong understanding of non-profit sector and experience working with diverse client populations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Package (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and experience using case management systems.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Ensure the strict confidentiality and privacy of records as they relate to the organization and its funders.
  • Fluency in at least one language that relates to the Agency client base such as Hebrew, Russian, Tigrinya, Dari, or Farsi is required
