Manager, Ability Management

**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Director, Ability Management, the Manager works in partnership with Island Health leaders to provide direction and support for a high performing organizational disability management programs, including medical accommodation and absence support within Island Health.
The Manager:
- Provides leadership and direction to the Ability Management team members in the provision of quality services.
- Supports all leaders including managers, directors and executive with the development of best practice and planning for their portfolios.
- Develops strategic plans, sets goals and objectives for the Ability Management program, including rehabilitation, stay at work, claims and case management support, attendance management support and medical accommodation.
- Participates in the development of goals and objectives, policies and service priorities for occupational health and safety.
- Identifies and communicates service needs to the Director, Ability Management.
- Develops and recommends budgets, monitors expenditures, analyses and reports on variances and recommends and implements remedial action.
- Builds effective relationships and works closely with other areas of the People portfolio and organizational partners to ensure effective communication and integration and to collaborate on complex issues and process improvement.
Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A level of training, education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in a related field, at least seven (7) years recent related experience in the disability management field.
**Skills And Abilities**:
- Experience working in a complex health organization with multiple union partners.
- Demonstrated ability to approach issues with client and solution focused methods, finding creative and proactive ways to improve service.
- Demonstrated understanding of best practice for disability management claims and case management processes and theory.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong, positive relationships and effectively work with various stakeholders in a consultative/collaborative manner.
- Demonstrated ability to strategize and work persuasively and effectively with various stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability in change management, project management and process improvement methods.
- Ability to perform effectively in a complex, changing environment, and lead and support change.
- Strong leadership skills including the ability to develop individuals and teams.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Solid understanding of accommodation and ability management practices, related legislation and applicable collective agreements.
- Valid BC Driver's License and use of a personal vehicle.
