Hours: Monday to Friday (May occasionally include evenings and weekends)
Term: Maternity Leave Coverage -- 1-year contract, 30 hours weekly
Start Date: Flexible, ideally late June
End Date: June 30, 2026
Salary Range: Pay Band # 5 ($22.79 to $31.33/hr)
**Job purpose**
The Nutrition Program Facilitator at the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre plans and delivers cooking programming that promotes food literacy and nutrition education in the community. This role involves creating and delivering cooking and nutrition-based programming aimed at equipping individuals with the skills and knowledge to make healthier food choices on a limited budget. The facilitator will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to tailor content to meet the needs of diverse populations, empowering participants to prepare nutritious, affordable meals while also promoting social connection and mental wellbeing through cooking in classes. The facilitator will work to ensure the successful delivery of these programs, supporting food security efforts and contributing to improved community health and well-being.
**Duties and responsibilities**
- Program Development and Delivery:_
- Build relationships and liaise with community groups and community organizations to engage interested participants
- Work with the Program Manager and other Program Facilitators to recruit and manage program participants and volunteers
- Work with the Program Manager to do needs analysis, design, and develop curriculum to meet diverse client needs
- Plan and create cooking class curriculum
- Manage and support participants learning in the class
- Coordinate the assembly and delivery of ingredients and supplies to participants
- Contribute to program improvements based on your experience and participant feedback
- Consultation with other departments on nutrition & food-related topics
**Group Facilitation & Teaching**:
- Deliver cooking classes, online and/or in-person to diverse groups, including kids, youth, adults, seniors, Indigenous groups, and newcomers to Canada
- Deliver nutrition & food related workshops externally and internally at the SFBLC
**Food Preparation**:
- Preparation of light meals & snacks for internal grab & go fridge and staff events
- Recipe testing for cooking classes in our Community Kitchen
**Communications**:
- Contribute content for social media posts to SFBLC’s communications team
- Develop other food literacy content for SFBLC’s social media accounts
**Other Duties**:
- Contribute to an inclusive environment in which clients, staff, and volunteers are treated with respect.
- Other duties as required to contribute to the mission of the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre
**Qualifications**
- Experience in cooking, nutrition, public health, food service management, health promotion, social program delivery, or other related disciplines.
- Experience teaching or facilitating workshops
- A passion for food and cooking, as well as familiarity with basic nutrition topics and food safety principles Experience working in the community sector with diverse groups, including vulnerable populations
- Strong intercultural competence
- Knowledge of Indigenous world views, Indigenous ways of knowing an asset
- Experience working with Indigenous groups an asset
