Practise as Ceremony is an analogy that describes the way we should practice with our families by describing the Sundance model. All Indigenous teachings start from the center and continue outward from the medicine wheel.
Practise as Ceremony Cultural Supports Service is a program designed to offer cultural supports and services to connect our partners, community members, and clients to cultural activities and ceremony.
This Cultural Connector is responsible for working with children/youth/families to establish or maintain their connection to Indigenous culture, history of their people, and the community. The Cultural Connector will work with clients to research and map out their family tree in creative ways.
The Cultural Connector will also be responsible to facilitate and provide teachings to our contracted partners.
- Culturally connected and trained in facilitation, mediation and conflict resolution.
- Cultural Connectors must also have knowledge in the Indigenous culture and traditions.
- Provide families the opportunities to learn about Indigenous culture and transport families or youth to ceremonies when needed.
- Create cultural teachings for the youth/children that will allow them to feel connected to culture through ceremony.
- Building relationships with First Nations Reserves is an important part in the role as Cultural Connector.
- Establish strong relationships with families and children.
- Establish strong relationships with our community partnerships.
- Link families and community partnerships to resources for continued learning opportunities.
- Provide facilitation of our Indigenous cultural teachings
- Facilitate Indigenous cultural teachings for our staff, clients, partners.
- Completion of contact notes and data entry into Efforts to Outcomes (ETO system).
- Expectation and accountabilities of this position may be revised, as necessary.
- Other duties, as required.
**Education and Credentials**
- 3-5 years of work experience in the human services field is required.
- Degree or diploma is an asset.
- Having your own vehicle for transportation is a must.
- Experience working with Indigenous families is an asset.
- **Current (within 6 months) Criminal Record check and Child & Family Intervention check, and Driver’s Abstract (without outstanding issues) is required prior to starting employment.**
**Salary and Benefits**
- Salary will be discussed at interview, working 34.50 hours per week.
- Monthly auto allowance.
- Paid sick and wellness days after 3 months’ probation.
- Extended Health Benefit (50/50 cost sharing) after 6 months’ employment.

This position is to start immediately.
