The Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) is the largest Centre for Education in Atlantic Canada with approximately 11,000 full-time, part-time and casual employees. Serving 53,000 students in 135 schools, our geographic region spans a 350 km radius._
The School Counsellor is responsible for the coordination of the comprehensive counselling program within the school, focusing on preventative and responsive programs and services. These programs and services must be principally concerned with the personal, social, educational and career needs of all students, placing priority on the best interest of students.
- a) Master of Education Degree in Counselling, Counselling Psychology or equivalent (minimum 35 credit hours with courses related to counselling skills and practice completed in-class online programs are not accepted);
- b) Masters courses must include counselling theory and practice, group counselling theory and practice, practice issues and ethics, counselling strategies and interventions, principles of assessment for counselling, research design in education, career and transition counselling, theory of human development, diversity or culturally responsive pedagogy;
- c) Minimum 350-hour supervised practicum component (inclusive of 120 direct hours and 20 group hours), preferably in a school-based practicum setting;
- d) A valid Nova Scotia Teacher's Certificate and two years teaching experience;
Eligible for a Nova Scotia Teacher's Certificate or Permit to Teach through the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
