Job description

**Cultural Early Childhood Development Worker**

Reporting to the Family Service Manager of the KAFS. The ECD Family Support Worker will work directly with Urban Aboriginal families whose Children are age 0-6 year’s old living in conditions of risk to have improved health and social development.

***:
Provide culturally appropriate activities.

Provide educational sessions using an inclusive, culturally sensitive model.

Provide a positive safe, non-judgmental environment for parents and children to socialize in group settings.

Provide information to parents/caregivers on childhood development and healthy lifestyle choices.

Provide individual family support.

Provide in-home and in-office visits.

Provide referrals to KAFS programs and other community resources.

Intervention support provided to child, family/caregivers to support personal growth.

Children, youth parents will increase their knowledge of causes and effects and the prevention of FAS/FAE.

**CORE REQUIREMENTS**:
Minimum Early Childhood Education Degree, Infant/Toddler Educator Certificate

Minimum of 3 years experience with certification or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Minimum 3 years experience working with Indigenous children and families.

Minimum 3 years experience working in an Indigenous organization.

Knowledge in all community resources is an asset.

Knowledge in completing ASQ’S.

Experience in evaluating Early Childhood developmental stages.

**OTHER EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS**:
Knowledge and understanding of First Nations barriers, concerns, and issues.

Ability to work well, individually or, as part of a dynamic team of professionals, ability to work well with groups.

Proven ability to supervise and monitor client’s progress.

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Excellent Networking skills

Crisis intervention, Conflict resolution, time management skills, and initiative.

Willing and able to travel, as required.

Monthly reports submitted to Family Service Manager

Attend all meetings as they pertain to children in care.

Documentation/Filing skills are essential.

Training and experience in facilitating workshops, and educational sessions for groups.

Have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel within the Kamloops Service area, as required.

Must pass a criminal record check.

**PERFORMANCE CRITERIA**:
Completed tasks relative to any, or all, of the above duties and responsibilities, measured in terms of:
Services provided, number of clients and family support provided. (Quantity, Quality, and Timeliness)

Term: Full time position

Monday to Friday

Hours: 8:30 to 4:30

May require some flex time.

Wage: $25.00 per hour
