**Responsibilities**:
PRIMARY PURPOSE
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Provides day-to-day advice and guidance to HR Business Partners, in support of their efforts to build and provide seamless service to their respective clients. Also handles the more complex labour relations matters that are redirected from the HR Business Partners.
Represents management in conflict resolution processes, including labour and classification grievances, appeals, and expedited arbitrations. Researches background information, interviews the relevant parties, documents findings, develops recommendations, and prepares backup materials.
Participates in the collective bargaining process, by providing input to bargaining strategies, conducting research on workplace issues, grievance-related trends, historical practices, case history, precedents, relevant legislation and other labour relations topics. Also carries out analysis of proposals and related cost/benefit; drafts collective agreement language; and prepares other bargaining materials.
Provides input to the development of tactical plans to support Translink’s labour relations objectives. Assists in the early identification and resolution of labour relations issues, and the development of a positive union-management environment.
Prepares reports and provides LR updates regularly to ensure Manager is informed of the status of labour relations issues. Identifies and escalates the most critical labour relations matters to the Manager’s attention as they emerge.
Participates on various committees, work groups and project teams, bringing the labour relations perspective to ensure compliance with collective agreement and other labour relations requirements.
Develops and maintains relationships with union leaders and representatives, and participates in dialogue to resolve day-to-day labour relations issues.
**Qualifications**:
Education & Experience:
The requirements for this job are typically acquired through an undergraduate degree in industrial relations or a related discipline, and four years of related experience involving the administration of collective agreements, participation in collective bargaining, handling grievances, and advising management in the resolution of a wide variety of labour relations issues.
Other Requirements:
Solid knowledge of the concepts, principles, practices and techniques pertaining to the human resources field, particularly as they pertain to labour relations, and conflict resolution processes, including grievance processes, appeals, and expedited arbitrations.
Solid knowledge of the collective agreement, relevant employment standards, and other regulatory requirements.
Solid organizational and planning skills to provide input and support to the collective bargaining process, and to handle conflict resolution processes within the context of specific timeframes.
Solid interpersonal and communication skills to provide specialized guidance and expertise to managers, supervisors and peers on a wide range of labour relations matters, and to handle conflict resolution processes, including grievances, appeals, and expedited arbitrations.
Solid analytical and problem solving skills to conduct research and make recommendations in support of collective bargaining, conflict resolution processes and other labour relations issues.
**Other Information**:
Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.
