**Working on site.** The Environmental Officer will play an integral role and be responsible for managing and enhancing our Company’s environmental performance, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, promoting sustainability initiatives, and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility within the organization. **Responsibilities**:

- Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and standards.
- As a first step develop, implement, and monitor environmental strategies, policies, and programs that promote sustainable development within the organization.
- Once the first step is in place the next stage is to move towards Carte becoming an environmental leader instead of being a follower. This may mean more advanced initiatives such as,
- Considering geothermal heating and AC in our 120,000 sq ft manufacturing facility. Projects such as an array of solar panels on the roofs of our buildings where we offset our electrical usage by selling solar power back to Manitoba Hydro or using our solar power to offset Carte’s electrical usage.
- An additional project would be to install rapid charging stations for employees’ use (possibly subsidized by Carte) to encourage the purchase of EV’s.
- Perform environmental compliance audits and implement follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations.
- Conduct regular environmental assessments and audits a to identify potential areas of non-compliance or improvement.
- Provide guidance and advice on environmental best practices, ensuring these are integrated into all business decisions and operations.
- Manage environmental documentation, including permits, reports, and compliance records.
- Work with internal stakeholders to develop and implement effective waste management and resource conservation initiatives.
- Educate and train staff on environmental issues and responsibilities.
- Serve as the primary contact for environmental regulatory agencies, demonstrating our company’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
- Stay up to date on current and emerging environmental legislation and industry trends, adapting strategies, as necessary.
- Assist in achieving green certifications or meeting environmental standards.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Certification - Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in the manufacturing environment.
- Strong leadership skills - Exceptional communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, and (internal and external), regulatory agencies.
- Strong knowledge of environmental laws, regulations and best practices in Manitoba and Canada.
- Continuously look for and implement process improvements and procedures - must be comfortable and adaptable to change.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
- Strong computer skills, proficient in computer programs and software, including data analysis and management tools.
- High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
- Promote a proactive risk-based approach to environmental management.
- Familiar with ISO 14001 and related processes.
