**Position Summary**:
The DOAP Team is a 24/7 high intensity outreach team that works with people with addiction issues in the community. The team works with CPS, EMS, Bylaw and Transit to be an alternative response to public intoxication. The team deals with crisis situations and is contacted by a wide range of social services and community partners. Workers work in shifts and/or weekends and only work in pairs. This position will entail driving, walking, lifting, doing community sweeps, visiting clients in their campsites, advocating on behalf of the client and working with all members in the community. On the DOAP Team the worker may be asked by the client to assist in a variety of ways, therefore independent thinking and decision making is vital.

Being persistent, empathetic and personable is vital for this role.

**Responsibilities**:

- Engage with clients on the street and in communities
- Provide support to individuals under the influence
- Being able to deal in high crisis situations
- Must be willing to obtain a Class 4 license and comfortable driving a van
- Must be able to assist with holding and lifting individuals
- Be able to locate clients, who are in need of support services, and who otherwise would not seek assistance
- Documentation (computer tracking system, case notes and daily stats)
- Provides an ethical, efficient and therapeutic approach to dealing with crisis intervention in a timely manner
- Demonstrates empathy and genuineness to all clientele, treating them with dignity and respect
- Provides support services (as required), to clients who present a unique and often different set of values, behaviors and challenges
- Foster and maintain excellent relationships with community partners
- Liaison with community agencies and businesses to fulfill program needs and to collaborate with all programs within Alpha House
- Provides immediate response to distress or crisis situations

**Qualifications and Requirements**:

- Strong belief in harm reduction, tolerant and non-judgmental
- Diploma or degree in Social Sciences, Community, or Health Sciences from a public post secondary institution
- MUST have a current Class 5 Drivers License (non-GDL) and be prepared to obtain a Class 4 License ASAP
- Experience in Crisis Counseling and/or Outreach work
- A desire to work with vulnerable individuals with addiction issues, and the ability to respect all clients and treat them with dignity
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Understanding of issues related to mental health needs
- Must have and wear steel-toed foot wear

**Hours of Work: WEEKENDS ONLY**
- 3 week rotation of days 7am - 3pm then 10am - 6pm
- 12 hour shifts - weekends only
