**Outreach Worker**

The Alberta Seventh Step Society is a private, Not-for-Profit, charitable organization working with offenders and ex-offenders. The Society originated in Drumheller Institution in 1971 and has been active since, including the opening and operation of our Community Residential Facility (Halfway House) starting in 1977. The Alberta Seventh Step Society supports offenders and ex-offenders to achieve and maintain their freedom, realize their potential, and grow to become responsible and accountable members of the community.

We are currently looking for a new team member to join us as our Outreach Worker. Reporting to the Community Services Manager, the Outreach Worker acts as a point of contact for residents and ex-residents of The Alberta Seventh Step Society’s Community Residential Facility (“CRF”). This individual is to provide resources and peer support as well as may be relied upon to facilitation and oversee Institutional and Street Core Group meetings.

**As our Outreach Worker, your responsibilities will include work in both Federal Institutions and the community.**
- Institutional Responsibilities_
- If needed organize, schedules, and facilitate Core Group meetings in any Federal or Provincial Correctional Institutions. Ensure that meetings are conducted in accordance with the guidelines defined in the Alberta Seventh Step Policy and Operations Manuals
- Actively engaged in the recruitment and training of Group volunteers.
- Attends Parole Board of Canada meetings on behalf of members when appropriate.
- Submits letters of support for members to Corrections authorities when appropriate
- Cooperates with Institutional and Community Parole Services in designing pre and post release plans for members when appropriate.
- May meet with members one-to-one for individual support when appropriate and only with prior approval from the program Supervisor or the Executive Director
- Conducts follow-up interviews with members and CRF residents that are returned to an Institution.
- Provides statistical records, Group minutes, and casework documentation as required by the Community Services Coordinator or the Executive Director
- Community Responsibilities_

- Actively engaged in the recruitment and training of Group volunteers.
- Is an on-site resource person for residents at the CRF. The Outreach Worker may also support residents of other CRF’s and only with the prior approval of the Community Services Manager or the Executive Director
- Provides practical support for the client’s needs by accessing information, providing referral services, job search information, resume building, medical and dental information, and informal peer counseling when appropriate.
- Provides statistical records, Group minutes, and casework documentation as required by the Community Services Manager or the Executive Director
- Eligibility for the Federal and Provincial levels of security clearances.
- Passionate and enthusiastic advocate of the Seventh Step Society, its mission, and its vision.
- Empathetic to the challenges of others still involved with or attempting to leave the criminal lifestyle.
- Possesses strong communication skills orally and in writing.
- Demonstrates the ability to interact appropriately with clients and stakeholders.
- Possesses a clearly defined sense of ethics and is aware of professional and personal boundaries with clients.
- Capable of demonstrating positive, supportive confrontation skills with clients
- Has a working knowledge of group dynamics and is culturally sensitive
- A working knowledge of the Criminal Justice System, the self-help process, and community resources.
- A high level of integrity, respect and understanding of confidentiality.
- knowledge of community resources and services and knowledge of criminal justice field would be considered an asset to this position

**Additional Details**:

- Full-time, able to work some evenings and weekends.
- $55,000 annually
