**Salary Range: $57,077.03 to $77,221.87**
**Location: Henlow Campus, Pembina Campus and/or remotely, as required**
**Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours/week), one shift per week to be worked from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm**

Reporting to the Manager, Student Services, Financial Aid & Awards, the Student Advisor will take a proactive, personal, and caring approach to improving student well-being and integration to the MITT campus and local community, with particular focus on international, indigenous and immigrant students. Student Advisors at MITT are responsible for providing academic, personal, financial and career-related advising to all of MITT’s current and prospective secondary and post-secondary students in order to support students through all aspects of the MITT experience.

In a fast-paced, student-centered team environment, advisors analyze a wide variety of student situations and circumstances, guide student decisions about appropriate and possible courses of action, and refer to other internal and external professionals as necessary.
Each MITT advising position will also include within its specific responsibilities a focus on a specialization relevant to the ongoing needs of students. The Student Advisor, Settlement and Integration provides admitted and current students with specialized advising support to ease their transition to Canada, Winnipeg and MITT, including settlement needs and ongoing integration into post-secondary education and local communities.
The work requires an open mind, innovative thinking, good judgment, an ability to manage stressful or sensitive situations, and a strong commitment to creating an exceptional student experience.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: *
**Academic Advising**
- Helps with understanding MITT policies, processes, and student responsibilities;
- Provides advice and support regarding coursework, study skills, time management, test preparation and general academic preparedness;
- Monitors student academic progress, and follows up on any reports of unsatisfactory progress, including, but not limited to, poor attendance, failing grades;
- Anticipates and responds to student needs and requests to identify opportunities to enhance student problem-solving and self-direction abilities.

Personal/Developmental Advising*
- Assists and supports students in meeting their educational goals, using developmental and proactive strategies;
- Provides personal supports for students with a significant emphasis on mentorship, including: guidance, leadership, encouragement, enhancing student autonomy and decision-making skills;
- Refers students that may be facing mental health challenges to internal and external services;
- Supports students experiencing intercultural, family, economic or other challenges, facilitates access to available resources;
- Creates opportunities and supports for high-achieving students where possible.

Financial Aid / Funding Support*
- Assists students in navigating tuition fee payment options or procedures, including accessing extensions or deferrals in accordance with MITT finance department policies;
- As needed, may serve on a committee to select student award and bursary recipients.

Admissions and Recruitment*
- Provides prospective students and applicants guidance and advice on admission requirements and program-specific performance standards;
- Guides students through a skills/interest inventory process to help them self-assess and select a suitable program of study;
- Works closely with MITT Recruitment where advising and recruitment overlap to provide the best experience for prospective students transitioning into applicants, then into future and current students;
- Presents or provides resources to prospective students about relevant topics such as finance, academic requirements and settlement.

Current **Student Engagement and Retention**
- Works closely with MITT Student Life on orientation events as well as general activities throughout the student life cycle;
- Responsible for developing, planning and leading student group and other outreach events;
- Manages, plans and executes workshops and presentations with internal and external partners on a variety of advising and student success-related topics;
- Develops and/or maintains printed and online academic and personal support resources.
