**The main purpose of this position**
This role is part of the Bethany Residence support team, dedicated to providing whole-person care to individuals facing cognitive impairments and/or psychiatric illness.
The Clinical Support Worker will work onsite at Bethany and be responsible for assessing the mental health and substance use needs of residents while providing direct support and facilitating connections to additional resources and services. Additionally, this role will help build the capacity of Bethany staff in areas related to mental health and substance use as needed.
Areas of supports will include building trusting relationships with residents, providing crisis intervention, mental health, and addictions support, offering supportive counseling and connecting residents to healthcare resources, delivering harm reduction support and resources, and co-creating individualized, holistic goal plans with residents.
This role is supervised by Support House but will work in close collaboration with the Thrive supervisors and staff to ensure effective service delivery.
**Responsibilities**
- Internal Role_
- Connecting with Bethany residents daily, onsite who are experiencing mental health and substance use concerns and establishing relationships with all residents and offering support as needed
- Ability to build relationships/rapport with individuals using creativity and patience.
- Work alongside the Bethany/Thrive team and other community partners to address immediate counselling support needs including crisis, primary care and harm reduction.
- Focus on preventing, de-escalating, navigating and stabilizing crisis situations including supporting individuals experiencing social and physical harms associated with chronic substance use, ongoing suicidal ideation and other harmful emotional or behavioral situations.
- Support individuals to maintain their current supportive housing option and or supporting the connection and transition to other more appropriate support housing
- Providing education (both formal and informal) around diagnosis and related interventions to the Bethany staff as required
- Participate in new admissions to ensure and support smooth transitions
- External Role _
- Working in close collaboration with partnered health care/primary care and addiction medicine providers.
- Representing Support House’s and Thrive Group’s values and philosophies in all community committees and meetings.
- Working knowledge of Thrive/Bethany and Support House’s services and support.
- Understanding how various social locations or identity factors impact access to, and experiences with, mental health, housing, and substance use supports and advocate for equity and inclusion.

**Knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in this role**
- Ability to build genuine connections with people through curiosity and interest in getting to know people.
- Bachelor of Social Work degree is required.
