**Purpose**:The Social Worker will work as part of an interdisciplinary team comprised of RN’s, Nurse Practitioners, Physicians, and multiple allied health professionals. The Social Worker would work in the NEO Kids clinics, specifically assigned to the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Diagnostic Clinic, but assisting in other clinics, as required. In particular, the Social Worker would support program development, and provide clinical assessments, treatment planning, family interventions and education, referrals to community agencies and support to patients and their families.

**Education and Training**:

- Currently registered as a Social Worker as well as the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
- Master’s Degree in Social Work required.
- Certification in FASD Diagnostic Guidelines.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

**Experience**:

- 5 years related clinical experience; 1-2 years’ experience dealing specifically with children and their families affected by FASD.
- Must have extensive experience working with children and families.

**Knowledge/ Skills/Ability**:

- Knowledge of the Regulated Health Professionals Act and the Family and Child Legislation.
- Therapeutic patient teaching and communication skills with adults and children.
- Knowledge of available community support services throughout northeastern Ontario for children and families dealing with FASD.
- Demonstrated knowledge of aboriginal health care issues and ability work collaboratively with community partners including the North East FASD Education Partnership.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to learn and work in a non-judgmental capacity; cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse cultural populations.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team, as well as being able to work independently in a fast pace environment with challenging clients and families.
- Experience working with children and their families coping with developmental delays and/or mental health issues.

**Personal Suitability**:

- Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record.
- Valid driver’s license and must be able to provide own; ability to travel within Northeastern Ontario as required.
- Willingness to travel to remote locations in northern Ontario to provide diagnostic clinics when needed.
- Criminal Reference Check is required.
