Our exclusive client, Nelligan Law, is one of Ottawa’s largest and most reputable local multi-disciplinary law firms, located in the downtown core. They are currently looking to hire a Manager, People & Culture to join their team on a full-time basis.

Required skills and qualifications:
3-5 years of experience in an HR Generalist, HR Manager, or People & Culture Specialist role

No previous experience in legal industry - our client is seeking fresh perspectives from different industries

Diploma or Degree in Human Resources

CHRP / CHRL considered an asset but is not required

Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written)

Experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Excellent organizational skills

Great sense of diplomacy, patience, empathy, and active listening skills

Ability to have difficult, delicate, and/or uncomfortable conversations in a kind and diplomatic fashion

Strong work ethics

Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Participating on the EDI committee on researching, developing, and implementing various programs focused on improving the organization’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives

Managing employee relations - HR related inquiries, performance reviews, employee conflict, disciplinary action, termination, etc.

Talent Acquisition - diverse employee attraction strategies, employee retention strategies, referral incentive programs, managing and utilizing staffing firm partnerships, updating open jobs on company website, preparing employment agreements / letters of offer, onboarding new employees, and conducting exit interviews.

Managing employee recognition programs - personal and professional milestones, anniversaries, weddings, newborn(s), etc.

Participating member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee to maintain a safe and healthy work environment

Ensuring organization is complying with national and provincial employment laws & regulations

Policies & Procedures - updating existing policies, creating new policies as required, updating employee handbook & job descriptions,

Providing necessary information to accounting department for payroll purposes - new employees, departed employees, personal time off / vacation requests, maternity leave, and more.

Working alongside event planner and operations team to coordinate employee engagement activities, events, seminars, webinars, etc.

Helping create employee professional development plans

Other miscellaneous duties as required
