Job Reports To: Director, Diversity & Inclusion
**Key Activities**:
- Reporting to the Director, Diversity & Inclusion, the Accessibility Coordinator will provide leadership, strategic direction, guidance, and expertise in accessibility, human rights, anti-ableism and anti-ageism activities at the NAC. They will work closely with Accessibility Advisory Committee and affinity groups to strengthen the NAC work culture and increase accessibility and inclusion for employees, patrons, artists, crew, and partners.
The Accessibility Coordinator is responsible for:
- the implementation of the NAC Accessibility Plan;
- the development and maintenance of policies, practices, procedures, plans, and reports to support the NAC in complying with the regulations and standards set out in the Accessible Canada Act (ACA);
- community consultations with persons with lived experience facing accessibility barriers;
- responding to accessibility queries and feedback;
- developing and delivering accessibility presentations at the NAC; and
- coordination of annual Access Ability Awareness Week activities.
The Accessibility Coordinator will be responsible for increasing awareness at the NAC regarding how to identify, remove, and prevent accessibility barriers of all types. They will act as a liaison between NAC senior management, NAC employees, and the NAC Accessibility Advisory Committee.
- Coordinate and support the actions required to achieve the goals outlined in the NAC Accessibility Plan, monitoring performance metrics and helping to identify and address roadblocks to success;
- Maintain current knowledge of the Accessible Canada Act and its regulations and requirements, as well as related accessibility legislation;
- Serve as Chair of NAC Accessibility Advisory Committee
- Review and monitor industry best practices in accessibility and determine their applicability to NAC operations;
- Serve as a central point of contact for receiving and addressing accessibility inquiries, requests for information, and feedback;
- Monitor and respond to accessibility feedback, ensuring individual accommodation requests are addressed and broader NAC procedural changes are recommended where appropriate.
- Develop a framework for evaluating accessibility and reporting to senior management on accessibility goals;
- Prepare reports and presentations for senior management, Accessibility Advisory Committee members, and other internal and external audiences, as required;
- Coordinate meetings, develop and implement corporate policies, and recommend and guide accessibility strategies;
- Work with the NAC DEI team to implement, review, and monitor confidential staff surveys and measurable metrics to ensure that the NAC has the information needed to build an inclusive and diverse workforce.
**Skill Requirements**:
- Post-secondary education in a related discipline, such as disability studies, law, human rights and equity, humanities, social sciences, or education and/or a combination of relevant education and experience;
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in accessibility advocacy;
- A strong understanding of universal design principles;
- A proven capacity to work both independently and in a team environment, collaborating with partners in consultative decision-making that considers diverse viewpoints and approaches;
- Ability to develop, deliver, and maintain a training schedule and suite of accessibility training programs customized for diverse audiences;
