**About the position**: The Tobacco Enforcement Officer functions as a Provincial Offences Officer conducting enforcement activities in accordance with government acts and regulations.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Enforce the Smoke Free Ontario Act (SFO) and Regulations and any other tobacco legislation.
- Inspect premises and contact individuals for complaint follow-up, compliance checks, and surveillance.
- Investigate and take statements from witnesses to determine if charges should be laid.
- Maintain current and up-to-date records of events.
- Issue tickets, certificates of offence and serve offence notices, summonses, subpoenas, and other legal notices to premise owners and citizens in violation of the provincial and local legislation.
- Prepares crown briefs, attends court trials, provides testimony on cases.
- Train and coordinate the work of Youth Test Shoppers conducting compliance and enforcement.
- Travel between multiple sites may be required.

**Qualifications and Competencies**:

- Knowledge of principles and practices of law enforcement normally acquired through the attainment of post-secondary training in Law Enforcement from a community college or equivalent.
- One to two years’ of experience in related law enforcement.
- Experience in by-law enforcement and surveillance
- Familiarity with tobacco enforcement legislation and the relevant education/compliance strategies
- Demonstrated effective communication and public relations skills.
- Ability to write fluently, clearly, and concisely.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and use of a vehicle.
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and are able to provide proof on immunization.

Terms and conditions of employment in accordance with the CUPE 4700 Collective Agreement

Starting wage range: $29.15/hr - $36.43/hr. Opportunity to opt in to OMERS pension plan.
