At this time, the **Halifax Port Authority (“HPA”)**requires:
**Working Shop Foreperson, Electrical**

Under general supervision, performs the duties of a Working Shop Foreperson a certified Red Seal Construction Electrician responsible for supervision, direction, control and planning while maintaining installation and repairing electrical equipment, systems and facilities to ensure reliable, consistent operations according to stated requirements, schedules, approved priorities; follows Safety regulations; performs other related duties.

The Working Shop Foreperson, Electrical reports to the Manager Trades & General Labour and supervises one electrician.

**Accountabilities**

**A.**Supervision and Direction**

1. Directs and assigns work to subordinates and provides appropriate supervision.

2. Coordinates changes in work priorities, work methods or procedures.

3. Ensures all subordinates are adequately trained to carry out assigned duties.

4. Instructs and ensures subordinates follow job procedures.

5. Ensures Canadian electrical code is followed by HPA staff.

**B. Electrical**

1. Carries out and performs all work pertaining to electrical inspections, maintenance, renovations or new construction of Port electrical infrastructure.

2. Assist in scheduling and performing shutdowns of fire safety and electrical services and distribution equipment.

**C. Planning**

1. Advises Manager, Trades & General Labour of required work projects, makes recommendations for work schedules; advises Manager of job completion.

2. Monitors incoming work requests, reviews and assigns work orders, and follows up to ensure Electrical Shop work orders are being completed and closed out.

3. Ensures proper equipment and materials are available prior to start and during job progress.

4. Ensures that shop employees have sufficient work projects and are efficiently and effectively utilized. Advise Manager, Trades & General Labour of issues.

5. Submits estimates of time and material required on work projects as required.

**D. Equipment and Supplies**

1. Advises Manager, Trades & General Labour of all purchases of materials, following HPA’s Procurement Policies and Delegation of Authority.

2. Controls and issues material and supplies kept in or by the Shop.

3. Ensures all shop equipment is in good safe working condition.

4. Informs Manager, Trades & General Labour of needed repairs, replacements or acquisition of Shop equipment; makes recommendations to replace or upgrade equipment.

5. Ensures Manager, Trades & General Labour receives all invoices, packing slips, and inspection documentation in a timely manner.

**E. Safety**

**1. Complies with HPA’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy (HR-354-4) and all Occupational Health and Safety regulations as outlined by the Canada Labour Code. Demonstrates a commitment to promoting a safety culture while ensuring all safety procedures, policies, and best practices are followed.

2. Follows all safety regulations and practices and ensures they are adhered to by subordinates.

3. Ensures that all subordinates are aware of job requirements pertaining to Safety.

4. Wears proper PPE and ensures that subordinates do also.

5. Ensures all lock out and tag out procedures are followed.

6. Reports all accidents to Manager, Trades & General Labour.

**F. Record Keeping**

1. Ensures timesheets are complete and accurate for Manager approval.

2. Maintains stock of material and equipment; ensures all such items are securely stored.
