**Position Summary**

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager of Hospice Care provides leadership to all care staff and ensures that all operations promote and delivery high-quality person-centred care and service to individuals, families and visitors. This individual will bring a depth of knowledge in palliative care and the dying process to all members of the team.

**Responsibilities Include**

**Leadership**:

- As a member of the Leadership Team of Hospice of Elgin, contributes to the development and implementation of strategic directions, in support of our Noble Purpose.
- Ensures Hospice operations promote and deliver high quality care and service to individuals, families and visitors.
- Monitors compliance with standards of care and professional practice regulations.
- Acts as Hospice lead for implementation of Infection Prevention and Control best practice.
- Establishes and supports standards of care and processes with a focus on positive customer service, continuous quality improvement and individual safety.
- Implements appropriate policies and procedure to ensure confidentiality of client information, and the maintenance of proper record keeping and retention.
- Oversees resident and guest flow throughout all hospice care programs
- Fosters a collaborative relationship and effective, proactive communication with Ontario Health at Home.
- Prepares annual operating and capital budget for Residence and Community Hub services.
- Monitors monthly budget variance and recommends operational adjustments to achieve a balanced budget.
- Reports on quality indicators and risk management to Executive Director.
- Provides monthly statistical reports to Executive Director.
- Participates in fundraising activities and events as appropriate.
- Provides care to hospice residents as required due to staff shortages, excess care load etc.
- Models and fosters an environment of positive customer service in all aspects of care.
- Leads Accreditation processes as required.
- Participates in presentations to the public as required.

**Human Resource Management**
- Supervises the Care and Operations Team (RNs, RPNs, PSWs, Housekeeping, Nutrition etc.) providing expertise, guidance and support in the provision of exceptional care and service.
- Acts as Safety Coordinator assuring compliance with regulations and policies to provide a safe and conducive work environment.
- Interviews, hires, and participates in training of care staff.
- Oversees the maintenance and protection of medical records and assures the accuracy, completeness and compliance of the medical records.
- Serves as a resource to staff and is attentive to the needs of hospice and staff to set the tone of the work environment.
- Delegates but maintains overall responsibility for the master schedule including staff scheduling, vacation, on-call and sick call coverage.
- Manages the development and implementation of on-boarding and training, provide regular education sessions for staff and volunteers.
- Responds to, investigates and addresses concerns brought forward by care staff. Communicates outcomes as appropriate to those bringing forward concerns. Escalates to the Executive Director as required.
- Works with Humans Resources to support staff and volunteers
- Leads regular meetings with staff, including staff meetings, huddles and resident care rounds
- Schedules performance reviews and work plans with individual staff
- Supervises external service providers including complementary therapists. Liaises with program and volunteer staff to address any issues, concerns or complaints related to service provision.

**Required Knowledge, Skills & Education**:

- Undergraduate Degree in Nursing (BScN or equivalent) required
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Province of Ontario required
- Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care (required) and CAPCE (preferred)
- Certification in CNA Hospice Palliative Care Nursing or commitment to pursue (within 2 yrs of hiring)
- At least three years of clinical experience caring for clients and families receiving palliative and end of life care.
- At least two years management experience including leadership, administration, supervision of staff, program development/evaluation, risk management, health & safety
- Experience working closely with volunteers involved in many aspects of care
- Knowledge of interdisciplinary care processes, commitment to teamwork, and ability to collaborate effectively
- Experience working with a wide variety of community service providers.
- Collaborative management style reflecting our “in it together” philosophy
- Strong organization and problem-solving skills
- Effective verbal and written communication and ability to provide clear direction
- Self-directed and accountable
- Good understanding of the geographic, social and healthcare landscape of Elgin County.
- The ability to work flexible hours when needed.
- Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
