**Job Description**:
**POSITION PURPOSE**
Reporting to the Supervisor, Child and Family Health, and under the guidance and direction of the Registered Dental Hygienist, is responsible for providing dental assistant services in the Children and Youth Dental Program as outlined in the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Mandatory Health Programs and Services Guidelines, under the Health Protection and Promotion Act.
**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Acts as a chair side assistant to the Registered Dental Hygienist and/or Dentists in Public Health dental clinics.
- Prepares patients for treatment, arranges instruments, prepares materials and keeps the operating field clear during procedures.
- Sterilizes instruments and sharpens dental instruments.
- Assists in the scheduling and planning of program activities.
- Maintains accurate records and prepares reports of activities.
- Mails parent notification forms and preventive program consents.
- Responds to inquiries and resolves concerns, as appropriate, from the general public etc.
- Ensures that services provided meet Regional customer service standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Successful completion of a Community College Dental Assisting Diploma or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current Level 1 certification by the Ontario Dental Assistants’ Association.
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Minimum three (3) years dental experience including presenting oral health education.
- Experience with current dental laboratory and clinical procedures.
- Knowledge of relevant dental Programs.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s licence and reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
- Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer focus, communication, collaboration and personal ownership..
