**Position**:Quality Assurance & Food Safety Coordinator (Full-time, permanent)
**Reports to**: Operational Grower/Plant Scientist and Chief Executive Officer
**ABOUT US**
Reporting to the Operational Grower/Plant Scientist and company CEO, the Quality Assurance & Food Safety Coordinator is responsible for performing quality assurance testing to ensure our products meet and exceed customer specifications. This position assists with audits, QA checks and documentation, corrective action plans, develops and maintains quality assurance databases, and maintains food safety records. They will also provide occasional support to the Research and Development Team by assisting with hands-on tasks in the hydroponic facility.
**DAILY DUTIES**
- Performing routine inspections of the greenhouse and R&D facilities
- Monitoring quality of food product
- Assists site staff with ensuring high-quality food safety and hygiene
- Record keeping to ensure traceability
- Assisting with documenting procedures and SOPs
- Maintaining a safe and tidy work environment in the R&D facility, greenhouse, and office
**REGULAR DUTIES**
- Coordinates inventory rotation by monitoring the quality of products and shelf life during storage
- Identifying non-conformances and resolving issues with corrective actions
- Contributes to building a healthy food safety culture and amending procedures as required
- Supports the R&D Team with hands-on tasks as directed
- Ensures compliance with Canada GAP regulations and other jurisdictions
- Conducts environmental monitoring and sampling
- Other duties as assigned
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Post-secondary education in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field
- Experience with QA/QC and food safety in the food industry
- Interest in growing food in modern, innovative ways
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, etc.)
- Experience with health and safety programs considered an asset
- Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s License
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**
- Ability to work independently after receiving directions
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
- Ability to lift up to 30lbs
**WORK CONDITIONS**
- 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday to Friday
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
- May be requested to assist operations on-site outside of regular work hours (i.e., evenings, weekends)
- Use of personal vehicle may be required (UP Vertical Farms will reimburse any mileage expenses)
