**What We Do**
WIN House provides individuals and their children fleeing violence, crisis response and intervention, safe temporary accommodation, and support for basic needs. Clients are offered trauma-informed, client-centered programming and support, access to resources, information, and referrals to community support. WIN House is working towards operating within a low-barrier model of care.
**What You Will Do**
The Hotel Transition Support Worker provides immediate and short-term support to individuals who have been placed in temporary hotel accommodations due to imminent risk of domestic or gender-based violence. These stays are intended as an emergency safety measure until safer, more appropriate accommodations—such as space in a women’s shelter, supportive housing, or safe placement with trusted friends or family—can be arranged. The worker is responsible for outreach within 24 hours of placement, providing crisis support, safety planning, and connection to long-term resources.
The Hotel Transition Support Worker will regularly demonstrate initiative and proactively undertake the following key responsibilities:
- Immediate Hotel Follow-Up (Within 24 Hours of Placement) _
- Respond promptly to referrals from 211 GBV Specialists, contacting individuals placed in hotels within 24 hours.
- Conduct in-person or phone-based wellness and safety checks to ensure immediate needs and risks are addressed.
- Provide trauma-informed emotional support to reduce isolation, fear, and disorientation during crisis transitions.
- Clearly explain what support is available, what to expect in the coming days, and how they will remain involved.
- Short-Term Case Management and Safety Planning _
- Conduct personalized safety planning with each individual, tailored to their unique risks, needs, and environment.
- Communicate clearly that the hotel stay is temporary and support the individual in exploring and securing safer accommodations such as shelter space, community-based housing options, or trusted friends/family.
- Assess additional support needs (e.g., legal, financial, housing, health, addiction, child safety) and initiate appropriate referrals.
- Maintain consistent contact with individuals throughout their hotel stay, providing short-term case management until long-term support is secured.
- Escalate complex or high-risk cases to appropriate community partners or internal supervisors as needed.
- Coordination and Community Navigation _
- Assist individuals in navigating systems and accessing immediate resources such as food, hygiene items, transportation, and child-related support.
- Identify and help remove barriers to accessing housing, income support, or legal protection orders.
- Advocacy and Crisis Response in Hotel Settings _
- Liaise with hotel staff and security to advocate for the safety and dignity of individuals in temporary accommodations.
- Intervene in safety-related incidents as needed, ensuring adherence to crisis protocols and escalating to authorities when appropriate.
- Ensure clients are informed of their rights and the expectation for hotel stays in a respectful and supportive manner.
- Cultural Safety and Inclusive Practice _
- Provide culturally safe, gender-responsive, and trauma-informed support to individuals of all backgrounds.
- Engage respectfully with Indigenous, 2SLGBTQIA+, immigrant, refugee, and racialized communities.
- Recognize and respond to intersecting systemic barriers and trauma related to colonization, discrimination, or migration.
- Collaborate with culturally specific organizations to enhance service delivery.
- Child Safety and Protection Responsibilities _
- Assess for and respond to child safety concerns in accordance with child welfare legislation and organizational policy.
- Engage caregivers in safety planning for children and connect families with parenting support and child-specific resources.

- Record Keeping, Evaluation, and Reporting _
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case records in alignment with organizational policies and privacy legislation.
- Log client contacts, referrals, safety plans, and outcomes in appropriate data systems.
- Support data collection and evaluation efforts to inform service improvement and fulfill reporting obligations.
- Prepare case summaries, reports, or updates for internal tracking or funder accountability as required.
**Who You Are**
Qualifications include:
- A degree or diploma in Social Work, Psychology, Women’s and Gender Studies, or a related human services field is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience, including lived experience, will also be considered.
