As a leader in Canadian construction for over 100 years, the impact of our team is etched deeply within the core of our legacy. Beyond Bird, this impact is felt in the fundamental aspects of our everyday lives. Our impact is greater than ever, and we are looking for those who seek to redefine their story.

We are a dynamic team of over 5,000 with a range of professions, backgrounds, and areas of expertise. This breadth of diversity in people and opportunities is one of greatest aspects of building your career with Bird. Every trajectory looks different. At Bird, you hold the pen, and you write your story. As you unlock your potential, you are surrounded by a team that supports you every step of the way.

Be a part of our team, where we pride ourselves on the quality of our work and the way we treat each other and our partners. You will build a career and long-lasting relationships based on respect, collaboration, and a solution-focused mindset. Bird is a place where you will unlock your potential and achieve your goals.

As a Planner/Scheduler, you will play a pivotal role in developing, maintaining, and monitoring project schedules for construction projects across both pre-construction and construction phases. You will collaborate closely with project teams—including estimating, design, engineering, procurement, construction, and subcontractors—to ensure schedules are realistic, achievable, and aligned with contract and company requirements.

This role is instrumental in tracking progress, analyzing performance, identifying potential delays, and proactively developing mitigation strategies. Your responsibilities at Bird will span from bid support and baseline schedule development to construction monitoring, schedule analysis, and project closeout.

Key Responsibilities
- Analyze RFP documents (including drawings, specifications, and schedule-related requirements) to inform schedule development and develop preliminary and master project schedules in Primavera P6 / MS Project for use during bidding and planning phases.
- Implement standard scheduling practices including WBS structure, activity coding, naming conventions, and calendar settings.
- Ensure schedule durations and logic are validated by internal production databases, Superintendents, and subtrades.
- Update project schedules weekly, bi-weekly or monthly, incorporating as-built dates, short-term forecasting, and delay impacts.
- Perform on-site visits as needed to validate progress data and ensure accurate updates.
- Generate “look-ahead” schedules to support field operations and identify near-term issues.
- Track and document schedule impacts due to changes, delays, or unforeseen conditions. Identify, document, and analyze delays, performing Time Impact Analyses (TIA) as needed.
- Analyze project performance using earned value, float trends, KPIs, and schedule variance metrics.
- Create as-built vs. as-planned comparisons to support lessons learned and claims analysis.
- Support 4D/5D schedule integration with 3D models and cost tracking for sequencing and cash flow reporting.
- Analyze contractor and subcontractor schedules for realism, compliance, and integration into the master project schedule.
- Track and analyze labor, equipment, and material usage and productivity.
- Evaluate and forecast resource loading, availability, and demand across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in planning/scheduling within the construction industry.
- Proficient in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
- Deep understanding of construction sequencing, critical path method (CPM), and project lifecycle stages.
- Familiar with ICI (Industrial, Commercial, Institutional) construction techniques.
- Hands-on past experience in roles such as Trades, Coordinator, Field Engineer, Superintendent, or similar is an asset.
- Knowledge of procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple schedules and prioritize under tight deadlines.
- Effective in problem-solving, scenario planning, and performance analysis.
