**Working for the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Science (ALES)**

The University of Alberta’s Climate Action Through Grazing (CAT-G) project seeks enthusiastic and qualified individuals for summer 2025 field technician and undergraduate research assistant positions.

These roles provide a unique opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary fieldwork in conservation biology, climate change mitigation, and rangeland science, contributing to impactful research initiatives while gaining hands-on experience in a supportive and dynamic team environment.

**Position Summary**

This role will run from May 1 to August 31, 2025, and the successful applicant will be based primarily at the University of Alberta’s Matthias Research Ranch. This is a full-time role with a starting wage of $18.30 per hour. Field accommodations and a daily per diem will be provided to support work conducted at remote locations. This role will provide the successful applicant with hands-on and practical research experience including animal and vegetation sampling, assisting in the rotational grazing of cattle, as well as the collection of greenhouse gas measurements.

**Duties**
- Assist in the monitoring and movement of cattle in a rotational grazing trial
- Vegetation sampling of areas exposed to grazing
- Recording and collecting samples from cattle
- Transportation of field equipment and samples
- Participating in the setup, maintenance, and monitoring of experimental sites
- Assisting ranch manager with general labour tasks on an as-needed basis

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Enrolled in or have completed an undergraduate program in animal science, biology, agriculture, environmental science or a related field
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency in data collection and record-keeping
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team under field conditions
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Prior experience in field research, soil sampling, or vegetation monitoring
- Prior experience with cattle or other large animals
