**Position Summary**:
Under the daily supervision of the Urban Justice Coordinator and the general direction of the Director of Justice, the Justice Worker is responsible for the advocacy and court navigation for youth and/or adults that are referred to the Alternative Measures/Extrajudicial Sanctions and/or Community Reintegration programs. The incumbent can expect to be assigned to either program, dependent on the operational needs of the justice program.
**Responsibilities**:
- Case manage the activities and functions of an assigned caseload of youth and/or adults;
- Promote and provide Restorative Justice processes in the form of community justice mediation circles, victim-offender mediation and accountability conferences;
- Provide mentorship, guidance and support to assigned youth and/or adults and serve as a positive role model in the community for all youth and adults;
- Engage Relatives, their family, victims and other community members in restoring harmony and promote healing in a culturally sensitive manner;
- Provide progress reports to the Ministry of Justice - Corrections and Policing, Crown Prosecutors, Lawyers, Judges, Probation Officers and other applicable justice personnel when required;
- Participate in justice programming, training and other Saskatoon Tribal Council events as assigned;
- Develop community and kinship resources to assist Relatives in completing their mediation agreements and/or reintegration mentorship plans;
- Facilitate workshops and programs;
- Use a holistic kinship model in the delivery of services to youth and/or adults and their family members;
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all professionals including STC staff involved in the
- case plan;
- Assist in development and efforts to complete yearly work plans and activity reports;
- Adhere to the STC Policy Manual;
- Operate in accordance to the Youth Criminal Justice Act and the Saskatchewan Justice Alternative Measures and Extrajudicial Sanctions policies;
- Complete accurate records of referrals, activities, outcomes and statistical information in the reporting format prescribed by the funding agency and STC Justice Programs;
- Maintain strict confidentiality of information concerning the victim and offender that is consistent with the standards of the Youth Criminal Justice Act and Criminal Code of Canada;
- Perform other related duties as defined and assigned by the reporting Director or designate.
***Education and Experience**:
- Post secondary education in a human service related field. Combination of skills, education and life learning experiences may be considered;
- Minimum of three years experience in a related field;
- The following training will be considered assets: Victim-Offender Mediation, Community Justice Mediation, Suicide Intervention, First Aid, Critical Incident Debriefing, and Life Skills.
***Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities**:
- Knowledge of current challenges youth must contend with;
- Knowledge of the Youth Criminal Justice Act and provincial youth court process;
- Knowledge of community resources within the city of Saskatoon;
- Ability to advocate for youth and their families;
- Experience working with youth ages and adults;
- Effective presentation and/or public speaking skills;
- Ability to prepare written reports;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
- Experience working within a governance structure in a community development capacity with First Nations; familiarity with First Nations culture, history is considered an asset.
**Other**:
- Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license, a reliable vehicle and meet STC’s insurance requirements;
- Must provide a current, original, Canadian Criminal Record Check (CPIC) with vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment.
