**The opportunity**:
The Career Consultant plays a vital role in supporting student success by helping them develop essential career management skills for navigating their academic, professional, and life transitions. Through the Career Centre, the Consultant provides access to both in-person and online resources, offering services such as career exploration, job search strategies, preparation for graduate or professional school, and development of self-marketing tools. By partnering with alumni, faculty, and industry professionals, the Consultant enhances student connections to the labour market and empowers students to identify their passions and achieve their short
- and long-term career goals.
Guided by career development theory and best practices, the Career Consultant delivers individualized support to students at all levels, focusing on employment readiness and career planning. This includes providing educational and occupational information tailored to each student’s needs. In collaboration with faculty, student organizations, and community partners, the Consultant fosters a culture of student growth and long-term career success. Additionally, they are expected to actively maintain and expand a network of professional contacts across sectors, promoting the Career Development Centre’s services in a professional and results-driven manner.
**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:
- Undergraduate degree required (Human Resources Management, Marketing or Business preferred)
- Training in career development either through job experience or an educational program is required
- Certificate in Human Resource Management or Adult Education and Counselling would be an asset
- Minimum of 2 years of directly related experience required, preferably with a post-secondary population
- Experience in career and employment consulting required, preferably within a post-secondary population
- Experience in resume development, interview preparation, job search strategies, career exploration and planning required
- Experience managing projects and planning events is required
- Experience with program development, workshop facilitation and public speaking required
- Experience working with diverse populations and those facing barriers to academic and career success preferred
- Proven experience in marketing, promotions and networking; preferably within the business community would be an asset
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must have excellent time management skills; able to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues, students, alumni and employers
- Must be proficient with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Adobe, D2L and CRM systems
- Ability to develop and facilitate career management programming/curriculum for use in academic/non-academic program settings required
- Proficiency in using social media strategies to engage stakeholders would be an asset
- Demonstrated skill/aptitude in cross-cultural communication and demonstrated understanding of EDI is required
- Ability to adapt to change quickly required
- Able to motivate others to lead, create, and implement new programs and services with key stakeholders required
- Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality with respect to all communications and records
- Be a self-starter with the ability to initiate and implement positive change for continuous improvement required
