John Ross & Sons Ltd. is a fourth generation, family-owned, scrap metal recycler. The company is the largest scrap metal recycling facility in Atlantic Canada and has been in operation for over 70 years, with locations all over Atlantic Canada. John Ross & Sons Ltd specializes in purchasing and processing all ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals.

We are looking to expand our dynamic HR team in Halifax to support the growth of the company

In this role as HR Generalist, you will be the go-to resource for employees and managers, offering support in essential HR areas.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Providing support to all levels of the organization, acting as the go-to resource for all things HR related
- Provide fair resolutions for employees and managers
- Performance management (discipline letters, coaching meetings, etc.)
- Ensuring compliance with HR policies and legal requirements
- Assist with investigations and terminations
- Assist with accommodation plans in coordination with the Safety team
- Assist in recruitment during high-demand periods and support the talent acquisition process as needed.
- Stay current on HR trends, continuously seeking improvements to enhance employee experience and company people activities.
- Some travel within the Maritimes may be required.

Qualifications:

- Post-secondary education in HR or similar discipline
- 3+ years of progressive HR experience in a Generalist role or similar
- Strong knowledge of HR best practices, Canadian employment law, and industry trends across multiple functional areas of human resources
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to interact easily and with discretion at all levels of the organization
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong problem solving and decision making skills
- Must have a valid drivers license and reliable vehicle.
- Must be a Permanent resident, or Canadian citizen.
