Summer Events Manager

**Position Overview**:The Special Events Manager is responsible for the development,
implementation, and evaluation of all special events, workshops,
and programs throughout the summer. They are required to
oversee program leaders as well as leaders in training who are
leading their programs.
**Responsibilities**:
- Special Events Administration _
- Develop and plan all summer special events and workshops throughout the district.
- Develop summer program descriptions with the management team.
- Support the development of the Summer Recreation Guide.
- Book facilities as needed.
- Purchase supplies, equipment, and materials for programs.
- Prepare program packages for Program Leaders.
- Conduct overall program evaluation and recommendations.
- Assist in the continued development of summer policies and procedures.
- Take digital photos during programs and events for promotional purposes.
- Prepare posters, newsletters, newspaper, and radio ads for programs.
- Support promotion of the summer program.
- Supervise Staff_
- Assist the Summer Manager with summer staff hiring and scheduling.
- Work with the management team to develop and implement staff training.
- Make scheduling adjustments as required.
- Provide guidance, leadership, and resources to staff.
- Support the development of the summer staff manual with the management team.
- Cultivate teamwork, comradery, and a positive work environment.
- Conduct onsite program visits.
- Evaluate staff performance and reward staff achievements.
- Respond to staff concerns, problems, or questions.
- Manage Office Procedures _
- Liaison with the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre on registration/program information.
- Submit program recreation registration for the online Connect2Rec software.
- Respond to enquiries, complaints, and program requests.
- Maintain a filing system of all forms, reports, and records.
- Complete summer end reports.

- Assist with programs as needed.**
- Assist Program Coordinator with other summer programs and initiatives, as required.**
**Team Responsibilities**
- Supports recreation department initiatives.
- Promotes a positive and productive work environment for staff. Ensures a spirit of
teamwork exists by promoting the benefits of collaboration and consultation.
- Incorporates Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations, and MODL’s safety
programs into all work.
- Works with municipal staff, community organizations, and other partners to increase the
number and quality of recreation opportunities for families and individuals.
**Essential Criteria and Competencies**
- Recreation programming and leadership experience. Preferably a student of Recreation or
Kinesiology
- Organizational and programming skills
- Knowledge of programming for special events, crafts, games, camping, and sports for all ages
- Supervisory skills and experience an asset
- Knowledge and/or experience with risk management in recreation programming
- Proven ability to work effectively with a variety of people in a variety of situations
- Ability to develop and attract interest around a theme or concept
- Experience planning and leading public special events for large groups of all ages
- Knowledge of accessibility and inclusion an asset
- Conflict resolution skills
- Excellent leadership skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Basic computer software skills (Microsoft Office)
- Access to transportation for the duration of employment
- Emergency First Aid and WHMIS
- Food Handlers Course
- Satisfactory RCMP Screening and Child Abuse Registry Forms
**Direct Reporting Hierarchy**
Reports to: Summer Manager
Supervising Others: Program Leaders; Leaders in Training
**Position Category**
- Full time;
- Contract/Seasonal;
- Based on 35 hours per week.
**Work Conditions**
- Semi-private office, air conditioned
- Summer office at the MARC, mid-late April to late August
- Weekly schedule varies, some evening and weekend work required
