Overview:
Reporting to the Director, IT, the position is responsible for the overall strategic management and leadership of a collection of systems within WUSA (Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association) and its subsidiaries. The manager has diverse computing experience of 50+ full-time user computers and over 150 user accounts for part-time staff and standalone devices across the organization. This includes responsibility for planning, design, development, and implementation of secure and sustainable systems for WUSA. The Manager works closely with other managers to coordinate the implementation of projects not specific to any one manager's area of expertise. The manager will be responsible for leading the infrastructure team in managing Microsoft 365 and Azure, Windows / Linux / Virtual Infrastructure, Azure, Business Central (ERP (Enterprise Resourcing Planning)), CRM (Customer Relation Management) Solutions, and emerging capabilities as identified.

**This position is contingent on funding.**

**Responsibilities**:
Establishes the direction and priorities for WUSA’s Computing Systems
- Establishment of direction and priorities for WUSA’s Infrastructure (software and hardware) through collaboration with stakeholders
- Assist in designing the short-term and long-term strategic plans to assure infrastructure capacity attains current and future needs
- Develop, implement, and oversee procedures, policies, service level targets[SB1] and related training plans for project management and infrastructure administration.
- Effectively manages the successful delivery of projects within the WUSA Infrastructure team
- Operational architect charged with overseeing the development, implementation and maintenance of IT infrastructure and their life cycles
- Manage and establish priorities for maintenance, design, development, and analysis of entire infrastructure systems
- Ensures multi-tier data backup processes are implemented, maintained and optimal for recovery
- Develops and reviews the disaster recovery plan and preforms regular testing
- Manage service request que to meet/exceed service level targets
- Gathers business data from information systems to help solve complex business scenarios and help with management decision making
- Report and prepare strategies to maintain on-premises server infrastructure and Azure / Microsoft 365 infrastructure
- Ensure security levels on windows and Linux infrastructure and servers are maintained
- Manages and oversees the WUSA’s server rooms including managing and monitoring the power needs (including provision of backup power), providing the networking needs of the rooms (working with the networking team in IST), and ensuring that the servers’ lifecycles are appropriate, and retiring and replacing when necessary

Team Staffing, Budgeting, & Procurement Process
- Participates in the hiring and development of staff members within the infrastructure team
- Coaches, trains, and develops direct reports through regular meetings/reviews
- Conducts annual performance appraisal and goal setting with team members
- Assists in developing the budget for WUSA’s IT department by providing budgetary outlook for infrastructure and system resources
- Actively engage with UW (University of Waterloo) cross-departmental IT personnel and campus-wide initiatives to ensure compliance with campus systems, policies, and procedures

Application Implementation and Database Administration and Ongoing Support
- Performs the hardware and software acquisitions process for all capital expenditures (including RFI/RFP) to ensure compliance with company purchasing policies
- Research market products, services, and trends to enhance WUSA business processes and client computing
- Ensure thoroughness with discovery/requirements analysis, researching solutions, testing, documentation, and deployment when assigned projects

Qualifications:

- Completion of University or College education in field of computer science or equivalent experience
- Completion of Azure Fundamentals
- 5+ years in computer/network administration of achievement and success in projects.
- Practical experience with: Microsoft Technology Stack, SQL Databases, Application administration, System Integrations and Microsoft Azure cloud technologies
- Required areas of experience include people management, information system tools and development frameworks
- Expert level Windows and Linux server administration
- Expert level understanding networking & security
- Expert understanding of server configuration management systems
- Proficient understanding & experience leading major technical deployments and upgrades
- Strategic planning

- Proficient in server administration - managing large quantities of servers and related components in an enterprise environment including VM
