SUPERVISOR’S TITLE: Executive Director

WORK SCHEDULE: Daily, 3-5 shifts per week, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., regular weekends and holidays

SUMMARY OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Cook provides full kitchen/meal services to all residents and Staff of SAM. Cooks must contribute to the welcoming atmosphere at SAM at all times. This position is crucial in the provision of nutritious, varied, interesting meals and snacks to all program participants. The Cook is responsible for maintaining food inventory and planning for all meals. The Cook is often an important contact for residents during their stay at SAM and must be empathetic and caring in interactions with residents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Plan meals on a rotational basis days, weeks and months in advance.

2. Prep food for all meals.

3. Be aware of client dietary needs and give sufficient attention to nutrition, portion-control, variety and presentation of meals; balanced by efficiency and economical provision of food services within a budget..

4. Maintain cleanliness of kitchen according to Food Safe standards and public inspection standards.

5. Record inventory levels and maintain them appropriately.

6. Monitor temperatures of refrigerators and freezers, reporting deficiencies to Executive Director and maintenance providers.

7. Ensure safe usage of equipment, especially ovens, slicer, knives and mixers.

8. Model appropriate behaviour for all residents, showing respect for all individuals and for community standards.

9. Ensure all house rules are followed.

10. Participate in Staff development activities, as required.

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Residents assigned or paid for helping in kitchen.

LEVEL OF EDUCATION/TRAINING/QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma/GED; Food Safe Certification; Culinary training preferred.

2. Ability to get along with a variety of people (sometimes difficult people) necessary.

3. Respect for the confidentiality of all communications required within job duties, including client information learned informally during interactions with clients.

4. Experience with multi-cultural/multi-lingual populations helpful.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: CPR/First Aid; Suicide Intervention

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Regularly walk, stand or stoop; occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be willing and able to participate in rigorous recreational activities with Staff and residents.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a commercial kitchen and residential setting. Work exposes incumbent to contagious or infectious diseases; Work may expose incumbent to dangerous and volatile situations; which could result in bodily injury.
