Maintenance Supervisor

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Plant Manager, this position is accountable for supervising the maintenance personnel in the areas of troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance for all equipment in order to meet production needs. NATURE AND SCOPE: This position functions as the Maintenance Supervisor for Pure Metal Galvanizing - Brantford and is responsible for supervising, training, motivating and mentoring approximately 4 - 7 maintenance employees within the Galvanizing facility. The incumbent must possess a balance of technical, human relations, and conceptual skills required to achieve results through subordinate supervision. The incumbent must have a background and experience in the maintenance and repair of galvanizing equipment, along with a detailed knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical and mechanics. The incumbent’s principle responsibility is to improve equipment reliability and uptime while controlling maintenance costs. These are accomplished by (1) Organizing and staffing the department with competent people, (2) Directing and training department personnel (3) Maintaining accurate machine files (4) Administering a preventative maintenance program, Developing objectives and standards of performance required to meet departmental, divisional, and company goals (6) Monitoring actual costs (7) Maintaining equipment Relating to employee involvement, the incumbent must be capable of acting as an advisor on all projects related to facilities and equipment. The maintenance department is responsible for quarterly electrical inspections in addition to daily contact with Safety through Safety Hazard reports Essential Job Functions: 1. Implements work schedule to maximize utilization of manpower, machines, and materials. Assigns work to maintenance employees. 2. Training and developing personnel and attain a high level of performance through individual and group performance. 3. Assisting employee teams in problem solving, project justification, and project implementation. 4. Defines results and standards of performance expected of assigned personnel. Monitors performance and takes corrective action as necessary. 5. Continuously observes for proper operating of assigned equipment. Recommends new or improved machines, equipment, and facilities as required. 6. Maintain accurate machine information and history files. 7. Monitor actual maintenance costs. Ensures reduction and control of all maintenance and repair costs. 8. Locate repair parts and services insuring timely delivery. 9. Improve equipment reliability through operational and maintenance changes or design improvements. 10. Maintain a spare parts inventory. 11. Direct and schedule repairs and preventative maintenance on all production equipment. 12. Maintain a preventative maintenance program. 13. This position requires successful completion of basic hazardous waste management training within six hazardous waste management program. 14. Ensures maintenance quality meets specified standards. Ensures assigned personnel make inspections or checks as required by standard procedures. Takes corrective action as necessary. Advises Plant Manager of conditions outside their control. 15. Ensures operation is in compliance with EPA regulations. 16. Ensures accurate and timely reporting of assigned personnel's time and production through various reports. 17. Promotes a continuous productivity improvement climate that encourages assigned employees to submit suggestions for improved operations. Implements worthwhile ideas and keeps employees informed of status. Keeps Plant Manager advised of employee requests, complaints, and suggestions, and provides prompt "feedback" to employees. 18. Administers company policies in a firm, fair, and consistent manner. Works closely with Human Resources to administer personnel policy and procedures. 19. Maintains good housekeeping and safe working conditions in assigned area. Reports and investigates all incidents in a timely manner. 20. Trains new employees into department/company activities and safety procedures. Introduces employees to safety representative. Prior to the end of probationary period, recommends approval, rejection, or probationary period extension. 21. Support the safety program through electrical inspections and responding to safety hazard reports. 22. Utilize personal computer in all phases of office work. 23. Be aware of and assist in the attainment of division and company goals and objectives. WORKING CONDITIONS: The incumbent will be exposed to a shop including dirt, grease, fumes, extreme temperatures, noise, dust, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and smoke. The incumbent may be required to work outside inspecting product and directing incoming material flow.
