The Technician Grade 2 - Geomatics is responsible for providing service delivery to meet the needs of our clients through managing aspects of the Survey Infrastructure Protection Program or SIPP. The Survey Infrastructure Protection Program (SIPP) is designed to assist the construction industry in understanding and fulfilling its legal obligations related to the protection of survey monuments. The Technician Grade 2 - Geomatics consults with clients, completes construction plan reviews / assessments, coordinates inspection scheduling, and completes construction project file reviews. Also prepares drawings, record keeping, updating databases and assisting with the administration of financial and administrative processes for the Branch.

**As the **_Technician 2 - Geomatics_**,**_ _**you will**:

- Provide support for the Survey Infrastructure Protection Program (SIPP).
- Review construction details to determine the effects the project may have on the survey infrastructure by comparing the proposed construction and location using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in various mapping software (GeoMedia Professional, MapInfo) and databases (Access, Oracle, Paradox).
- Advise clients if the proposed construction project is cleared or if an appointment with a SIPP crew is required prior to construction.
- Prepare drawings for projects undertaken with the Geomatics and Land Information Services Branch and the Planning, Property & Development.
- Provide data entry and record keeping for the Geomatics and Land Information Services Branch.
- Perform all aspects of scanning and printing for both small and large scale drawings for the Geomatics and Land Information Services Branch.
- Assist the Technician Grade 3 with the administration and coordination of financial and administrative processes within the Branch.
- Perform other related duties consistent with the classification as directed.

**Your education and qualifications include**:

- High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Diploma in Geomatics Technology from Red River College, or equivalent program of study from another education institute preferred; OR Six (6) Post-Secondary courses or equivalent program of study directly related to the duties of the position including courses in computer-aided drafting principles of GIS and survey computations; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Minimum three (3) years' experience related to Geomatics activities.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret various technical drawings, blueprints and specifications in order to determine the impact of proposed construction upon the survey infrastructure.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to schedule appointments with clients and ensure optimal daily work efficiencies for field staff.
- Working knowledge of database, drafting, mapping, Excel spreadsheet and word processing software.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Strong written communication skills.
