**Responsibilities**:
We are currently recruiting for a **Category Manager - Consumables.**
This position is based out of **Mississauga, Ontario.**

With direction and support from the Director of Merchandising, the Category Manager works to build an appropriate assortment through planning, developing, sourcing, buying, managing and administering merchandise within assigned categories and/or departments to ensure the effective execution of the business plan.
- Development, management and administration of the merchandising and financial strategy and plan for consumable categories and/or departments. Build an alignment to the overall business objectives.
- Accountable for preparing plans and forecasts of sales, turns, margins and open-to-buy working with the Planner.
- Proactively works to anticipate customer needs for consumable categories by building a focused merchandising strategy.
- Review product/category analysis.
- Merchandise assortment building, sourcing and negotiating, product selection, pricing and ordering for all programs (core, seasonal, and opportunity buys)
- Regular communication with the allocation team
- Build and maintain good vendor relations
- Marketing Management - plan and coordinate the execution of all promotional activities of assigned categories, including Seasonal, Monthly and Weekly promotional planning. (Advertising, signing and product setup)
- Market research - customer, industry, direct and indirect competition and external environment.
- Communication with logistics and store as required.
- Visit Red Apple Stores and Competition regularly to maintain a connection with the field and understand challenges in execution at the store level
- Undertake special projects as required.

**Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience**:
**RELATIONSHIPS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT**:

- Internal: All areas of the business (Home Office Team)
- External: Vendors

**SKILLS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**:

- Minimum 3-4 years of previous in consumables retail (food, convenience, health & beauty, etc.) experience in merchandising is required.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, passion and knowledge of the consumable category
- Experience in marketing merchandise (Product, pricing, promotions, placement)
- Degree or diploma in Merchandising, Business, Marketing or a related field;
- Excellent negotiator and communicator with attention to detail
- A result-driven, self-starter with a demonstrated passion for buying and a desire to learn
- Ability to work in a team or independently
- Demonstrates the ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and intermediate level of working knowledge of systems
