Agricultural Technician

_Overview:_

Agricultural technician needed from **mid-June to late August** at our pick-your-own and picked-for-you strawberries/raspberries/vegetables/flowers farm**.**
- Summary of agricultural technician role:_

To assist with planting with the planting and maintaining of fruit and vegetable crops.
- Main duties:_
- Agricultural technician:_

1. Assisting in planning, planting, cultivating, irrigating, managing and harvesting in berries, vegetables and flowers operations

2. Related machinery and equipment maintenance and operation.

3. General farm labour tasks, as required.

4. Assisting in the seasonal farm market operations, as required,

which may include one or more of the following:

- Welcoming customers and directing customers to the fields to pick berries, vegetables and flowers
- Directing customer movement and picking activities within and near the fields
- Assisting with parking lot direction
- Distributing baskets and weighing customer containers
- Cashier duties
- Assisting with berries, vegetables and flowers harvesting
- Arranging and restocking produce displays
- Cleaning duties
- Other related tasks as required

- Notable requirements:_
- Physical requirements: _This role requires the employee to work outdoors for extended periods standing, walking and fulfilling tasks in uneven physical terrain. This role requires the employee to repeatedly lift and carry materials. This role requires the employee to repeatedly bend and/or crouch and to work for extended periods in a bent and/or crouched position. This role requires the employee to work with tools and equipment safely.
- Work Experience:_

Previous work experience/training in agriculture / horticulture highly preferred

Previous work experience requiring significant physical work highly preferred

Previous customer service experience an asset

Previous work with point-of-sale equipment an asset
- Skills Development:_

This role offers skills development in agricultural operations, hands-on farm labour, communications, customer service, all in a fast-paced, collegial environment. It is an excellent opportunity for college and university students who enjoy hands-on working outdoors.

Schedule:

- 10 hour shift
- Weekends as needed
