Jordan's Principle Support Worker

Sasamans Society is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join their Jordan’s Principle team, based in Campbell River, BC. Jordan’s Principle is a child-first, legal ruling that is designed to ensure that First Nations children receive the products, services and supports that they need, when they need them. It is based on the premise of [1] substantive equality, [2] providing culturally appropriate services and [3] safeguarding the best interests of the child. In this unique role, the Jordan’s Principle Support Worker will engage directly with clients and will also work closely with the Service Coordinator and the Fund Administrator in the successful delivery of the Jordan’s Principle model in the Sasamans’ service area.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Working with licensed/registered professionals to write letters of recommendation
- Connecting clients with service providers
- Accompanying clients when shopping for approved items (online and/or in person)
- Driving clients to in-town and out-of-town appointments
- Navigating available community resources
- Working collaboratively with local agencies and organizations to provide wraparound service
- Coordinating and/or delivering workshops to meet the needs of clients, such as budgeting, parenting, managing a household, etc.
- Ongoing professional development through training activities and industry events
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preference may be given to individuals with a BSW or human service diploma
- Applicable work experience with transferable skills
- Knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture (Indigenous ways of knowing and being) and the impact of colonization on Indigenous children, youth, families, elders and communities
- Appreciation and experience with trauma-informed practices
- Excellent problem-solving skills, conceptual thinking skills and conflict resolution
- Ability to learn quickly and develop relationships with local resources
- Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks and work with mínimal supervision
- Ability to maintain client confidentiality and individual privacy
- Demonstration of clear professional boundaries
**REQUIREMENTS**:
- Applicant must have own vehicle, a valid driver’s licence and submit a driver’s abstract
- Applicant must successfully undergo a vulnerable sector criminal record check
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
- 35 hours per week
- $26 - $28 per hour
- Extended medical and dental after successful completion of six months probationary period
Pursuant to section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code, preference may be given to applicants of Indigenous ancestry
