The Corporate Communications Manager is responsible for managing key activities in the Corporate Communications department to create awareness and enthusiasm for the Corporation's activities via traditional and social media on a local, national and international scale.
The Corporate Communications Manager is responsible for helping develop and manage communications and social media strategies to increase visibility of Air Canada's corporate initiatives, and in issues management. The Corporate Communications Manager will also be in charge of certain programs and activities including in evaluating, negotiating, working with travel writers. The individual will be fully apprised of all responsibilities in crisis communications including ensuring all communications are approved and disseminated.
Reports to Manager, Corporate Communications. Based at Air Canada headquarters, Montreal.
Corporate Communications:
- Manage the travel writer program supporting Air Canada earned media opportunities, including identifying and researching travel writers, negotiating travel deals with journalists, providing NTP codes for those trips, arranging MLL access for writers as warranted, and follow up on published stories, measuring for ROI. Complete summary report for these initiatives and make recommendations re: future work with writers.
- Liaise with Air Canada's Sales and Tourism teams to manage/vet travel writers which various global and domestic tourism associations are working with.
- Maintain a keen understanding of social media and industry trends and make appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategy surrounding them.
- Manage social posts and other communications as required including visuals such as pictures or short videos, to support various operational situations such as weather impact, other operational impact from third parties, etc.
- Work closely with media monitoring services to produce daily time-sensitive reports, analyse, and note developments in public sentiment and trends. This includes using analytics to measure the reach of various communications initiatives, comparing results to other high-profile events/issues to determine the impact to Air Canada's reputation.
- Help develop and implement mainstream and social media strategies to enhance Air Canada initiatives and activities.
- Help propose, develop and then implement timely social media posts and strategies during irregular operations to disseminate accurate information for media, customers and other stakeholders.
- Responsible for the ongoing management of the Air Canada Media room content to determine what information should be presented and highlighted (final approval from the rest of the Corp Comm team), to ensure that the material is accurate, timely, relevant and useful. (including tweets, stories, photos, slider, links), and update the site accordingly.
- Screen incoming media queries and handle in a timely manner, exercising good judgement and prioritizing to be consistent with corporate goals, in collaboration with spokesperson.
- Contribute to the logistic planning of press conferences and other special events for media, employees and the general public, on a local and nationwide scale.
- Manage production and translation of communications materials for internal and external audiences to ensure quality, deadlines and budgets are respected. Must be able to proof French translation against English for accuracy as per Air Canada standards.
- Manage distribution of communications materials for external audiences.
- Optimize, organize, and oversee management and update of the Corporate Communication SharePoint site for all corporate communications documents including positions, press releases, emergency response documents, executive bios, and a range of additional documents.
- Responsible for ensuring all branch invoices are accurate, coded properly, for the approval by the Director, Media Relations.

- Exceptional and proven communication skills, written and oral, with a natural instinct for ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Proven ability to work well under pressure and with mínimal supervision.
- Strong organizational skills with an aptitude to prioritize multiple responsibilities to meet strict deadlines.
- Sense of initiative, self discipline and proactive thinking to problem solve.
- A high degree of diplomacy, discretion, maturity and judgement when confronted by media, at media/employee/public events, etc.
- Strong interpersonal skills; must be a team player and able to work with various internal stakeholders with different objectives.
