Research Assistant, The Dynamic Caribbean: Tracing Interactions Among Precolonial Indigenous Populations in Cuba

Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.
**Position Overview**:
**Duties**:
- Prepare materials and samples for lab research.
- Scan osteological materials and archaeological artifacts for 3D modeling.
- Identify anatomical landmarks for geometric morphometrics analysis.
- Perform geometric morphometrics protocols.
- Maintain and manage databases and research materials.
- Conduct research experiments and analysis.
- Monitor and document research status and findings.
- Assist with duties related to the production of articles, publications, reports and presentations.
- Assist in data collection, data entry, analysis, and interpretation. Database updating and maintenance.
- Perform data/word processing, and record keeping.
- Social media promotion of projects results and events organized by the Anthropology Department.
- Perform routine clerical and administrative duties to support research activities.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
**Qualifications**:
- Must be a full-time student at The University of Winnipeg.
- Familiarity with Anthropology Department projects.
- Must have completed courses in: advanced human osteology, human paleopathology, archaeological lab methods, evolutionary biology, and human evolution.
- Prior experience in research preferred.
- Familiar with human osteology and odontology.
- Familiar with anthropometric landmarks
- Basic knowledge of photogrammetry and 3D reconstruction.
- Basic knowledge of photography and photo edition.
- Basic knowledge of 3D Scanning and the use of scanners and software.
- Attention to detail.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work to deadlines and under moderate pressure.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions, procedures and regulations.
- Ability to work in an unsupervised environment, and to work effectively on team-based projects.
- Familiarity with Lab work safety policies and procedure.
**Condition(s) of Employment**:
- **Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.**
The period of work will be from **June 16, 2025 - August 25, 2025**and the estimated total hours of work will be **200-250 hours**.
