Nini’s Cooking is Calgary’s leading culinary school for children. We provide an awesome culinary Summer Camp experience to kids. Our mission is to provide a safe and empowering environment where youths can learn hands-on culinary skills, and develop confidence and independence. We do this by step by step teaching cooking and baking skills, supporting and helping kids cultivate a love of cooking healthy foods and creating recipes on their own. We believe skills learned at Nini’s Cooking will have a positive impact on their lifelong eating habits and their overall health.

To ensure our campers have a fun and memorable summer and are equipped with lifelong skills, we are seeking experienced enthusiastic, hardworking and dependable **Summer Break Kitchen Assistants**to join our culinary team. The applicant must be extremely organized, have a passion for food, and enjoy working with children. You will report to the Lead and Sous chef instructors. Responsible for maintaining the kitchen to ensure it operates efficiently by sorting and distributing ingredients. Assist the chef instructors by organizing the kitchen and storage areas so ingredients and tools are easily accessible. Responsible for managing all inventories and mise en place preparation, tracking and avoiding food wastage and making sure that the kitchen meets all health and safety requirements from the head office. Conduct all dishwashing and kitchen sanitation, and assist the counsellor with break-time supervision. Without our Kitchen Assistants, our campers would not have a fun summer and our chef instructors rely on them to collaboratively make camp fun.

You will bring your passion, and unique skills to Nini’s Cooking team to create a fun, engaging, educational and delicious experience for our campers.

The camp will run throughout the summer from the beginning of July to the end of August. This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week from Monday - Friday with occasional overtime as deemed necessary. For a full list of your responsibilities see below:
**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Execute and maintain sanitation and safety standards at all times
- Practice FIFO in the kitchen, pantry, fridge and freezer
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Report incident reports to the Lead chef
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with campers, team and families and support team to reach common goals
- Supervise and support campers as they execute recipes to ensure accuracy and safety
- Manage and organize an inventory of food and supplies as well as mise en place preparation
- Support the lead chef in building a physically and emotionally safe environment for campers
- Avoid food wastage, store away sharps safely
- Ensure adherence to quality cleanliness and standards.
- Help supervise and support the camp counsellor in the execution of break time games and activities as outlined in the camp counsellor manual
- Help supervise and support campers to ensure their safety and to accurately execute recipes
- Help manage campers and assist during the Friday competition, including prep work and cleaning
- Assist the lead chef in the management of back-of-the-house
- Together with the team, ensure end-of-the-week cleanliness expectations are met
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety and food services regulations.

- Complete other duties as assigned.

**Required Experience and Skills**:

- 2 years experience working in the culinary industry
- 1-year dishwashing experience
- Experience working with children is an asset
- Ability to stand for 6-8 hours and lift 20lbs
- Hardworking, self-motivated, organized and dependable
- Punctual, detail-oriented, proactive, cleanliness and safety conscious
- Experience working in a fast-paced high-volume kitchen environment.
- Passionate about food and working with children
- Willingness to comply with all food safety procedures

**Required Qualifications**:

- **Preferrably Permanent Resident**:

- Red Cross or St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid & CPR certification
- Food Handlers Certificate
