Nursing Clinical Extern

**Job Summary**
As part of the interdisciplinary team, the Nursing Clinical Extern is an unregulated healthcare provider who will be providing patient-centred care under the direct and/or indirect supervision of an identified Regulated Health Professional (RHP), while taking into account CNO guidance for unregulated care providers.
**Qualifications and Experience**
- Enrolled in a Registered Nursing Program (RN) and entering the 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of the Program; or Enrolled in a Registered Practical Nursing Program (RPN) and entering the final year of the Program.
- Evidence of good academic standing.
- Successful completion of the academic year prior to the last year in a recognized Program.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
**Skills and Abilities**
- Practices under the direct and/or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse, Registered Practical Nurse, or regulated health professional (RHP) assigned to them, while taking into account CNO guidance for unregulated care providers;
- Works with the supervising RHP to ensure they have the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to perform all actions/duties,
- Provides assistance with lifting, turning, transferring, transporting, and ambulating as per the hospital policy
- Under supervision, conduct patient assessments, measuring vital signs, assisting with ambulation and activities of daily living, completing documentation.
- Completing Basic Skin Care while being directly supervised by the RHP.
- Assisting patients where necessary during meals and assisting with feeding.
- Complete and maintain related records and documentation
- Observes patient assessments and participates as requested
- Demonstrates excellent assessment, communication, organization, problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrates strong abilities to facilitate patient and family-centered care and establish therapeutic relationships.
- Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
- Commitment to providing an exceptional experience for patients, family and staff.
**Hours of Work**: In order to provide the necessary patient care, our operations run 24/7. There is the expectation that you are available to work weekdays, weekends and all shifts (days, nights, 12 hour shifts).
We are looking to hire temporary full time and temporary regular part time positions.
**Other**: All job offers will require compliance with our COVID-19 Vaccination Policy for proof of full vaccination (two doses) unless provided with a medical exemption or an accomodation under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
